Why does food taste so good?

I am just totally new to this dieting thingy, and I suck at it. :frown: I never used to have to watch what I eat, and I just ate whenever I felt like it. That worked fine until the last year or so, during which I gained 50 pounds, and changed my wardrobe from a size 4, to a size 16. I'm deeply embarrassed, but I just can't seem to stop eating...I developed a really big appetite during my "fast metabolism" years. How do you put down the donut and just say no?

Because of sodium content, sugar, fast carbs .. We all start from somewhere and each person has there own back story..
I would say, what you need really think about is why your doing it and what you want to gain and achieve. Set goals for yourself, plan a holiday, trip or even a social gathering something (incentive) to work towards .. Where you will have the opportunity to showcase your hard work because after all you've been working hard .. You owe it to yourself to be the best you can be.
In terms of food, it does take a while to train yourself, stop urges and cravings to 'eat clean' eat well.. I would say eat smart. Eat whole foods, quality food 70-80 % leaving 20% as your choice so it fits your macros.
If you want to lose weight, go on a deficit calorie intake.0 -
Wanting to look better than the average helps too.0

You can eat things other than donuts that taste good!
I had strawberries yesterday, they tasted pretty good. My scrambled egg for breakfast tasted good. So did my coffee. Tasting good does not have to equal unhealthy! So find some heathy foods that taste good, eat those, do some exercise and you'll lose weight!0 -

Healthy foods taste good too and don't come with guilt for having eaten them.0

You just have to find foods that feel indulgent and that are equally beneficial for your body!
My "dessert" lately has been a frozen banana blended with 1 Tbsp peanut butter..I seriously almost feel guilty when I eat that even though it's all natural peanut butter and FRUIT for pete's sake.
Grilled chicken or steak or any meat is also amazing and tastes way worse for you than it is.
Just cut out the processed sugars and fats and craziness and you'll start to appreciate the natural indulgences and beauty in tons of foods that are healthy!0 -
I'll tell you something I saw once, and it struck a chord with me. When you get a craving for something don't think, "I want it, but can't have it." Instead, think, "I can have it, but I don't want it."0

This is a battle that each one of fight. And, eventually, individuals find their own mechanisms to deal with it. If you keep searching, you will find the one that works for you. This is why exchanging ideas is a good deal . . . you don't yet know if someone else's technique (or which one) might work for you as well.
A long time ago, I used (actually re-directed) my anger to combat appetite. I knew people whom I were angry with, and who wanted me (or so I imagined) to fail. I was determined to not let that happen. Every part of me resisted the hunger pangs like they were bruises in a battle. And, when the hunger pangs would go away, I would have reason to smile. But, this was quite a long time ago. Once habits set in, it becomes much easier.
Also, make healthy food tasty. Much dinner is mostly raw green leafy vegetables, fruit (strawberries and blueberries), onions, and mushroom (with the protein dish on the side). So, vegetables . . . yuck! I have learned to drizzle liberal quantities of Red Wine Vinegar (zero calories!) and seasoning to it, add salt and pepper, and make it very, very delicious to me. :-)
And, do not store unhealthy food anywhere near you. You have to set yourself up to succeed.
Good luck to you!0 -
