How many calories

Hi
I've just started and MFP has started me on 1100 calls per day. I'm tempted to raise it to 1300 as I don't think I could manage on 1100, what do you guys do?

MFP doesn't set calories lower than 1200?

Either a typo, or they manually set it to 1100. Either way, 1200 is the minimum, 1300 is better.

Just make sure you eat your exercise calories, this system is designed so that you lose weight with zero exercise.

Yeah, curious what settings were entered to get 1100??

If you set it with a goal to lose 2lbs a week, change that - that will give your more cals - .5 to 1 lb a week is best.

Also realize that MFP expects you to eat back exercise cals, which will bring up your daily total as well. It's a great tool, and it works, just make sure all your entries are correct and reasonable as far as goals, activity level, etc.

Definitely increase calories to your BMR. I'm losing on 1600 net calories a day.

I read your response to this post and have a question. I have lost 10 pounds just on Medifast eating program. I start exercize (walking) this week. What are you talking about in eating my exercize calories. Am I supposed to eat more according to what the program says I burn by walking - on top of the 1200 calories? (I hope I can find your response on here - I'm not great with the technology.)

    This.

Disagree. Your BMR is how many calories they would feed you if you were in a coma doing absolutely nothing all day long. It's what keeps your organs functioning.

If you eat your BMR + exercise calories, that would make more sense. Not trying to sound like a hater. Just wanted to say. :)

    Yes.

Eat your burned calories. That's how MFP intends it.

1100 would definitely be rabbit food and how long can you go on that? :-)

I am 5'3" and looking to weigh less than 200 real soon!

I am doing 1400 calories (wanting to lose 1 lb/wk) With exercise I have lost 11 lbs in one month

Here is a calorie calculator I saw on www.canyoustayfordinner.com: http://www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm

Thanks for the replies, when I logged in after about 10 months of not using it it said 1100, maybe I adjusted it from last time. Anyway I have set it to 1200 and will see how I manage, I can always move up to 1300 if need be.
