Wisdom teeth removal & exercise

How long did you wait after having your wisdom teeth removed before you started exercising again? What did you start back with?

Got mine out Thursday with minimal complications, pain has been moderate but slowly subsiding and swelling is minimal. I've become one with the recliner the past few days, so have definitely got my rest in. In terms of diet, it's been 50% green smoothies, homemade veggie soups, fruit or veg juice... and 50% ice cream and pudding. (hey, I had get something good out of this! ). I'm slowly working in some more solid foods, like meat cut up into tiny pieces, but still predominantly soft foods.

Dentist just said no exercise for the first 2-3 days and then it was up to how I felt after that. I was thinking maybe doing an easy walk tomorrow, and then maybe hitting the gym Tuesday for some light weight training and light cardio. I normally run for cardio but had read somewhere that you aren't supposed to run for at least a week, something about jostling your healing wounds? Not sure if that's true or if the interwebs is exaggerating crap again.

Would love to hear your experiences!

Walking is a good start. I would wait to run.
  • as long as you rested a day or two you will be fine. There are clots in the sockets now. Your only complication would be a dry socket which is caused by losing the clot. This would be caused by any extreme negative pressure such as smoking or sucking through a straw.

I'll go with this advice. Before you start any intense workout, just do a quick thought process about if there are any exercises in which you may grind your teeth, clench a jaw, or something similar with your teeth. If there are, you may want to perform them at 70% intensity for the next few workouts, or skip 'em for a few more days.
