    Macronutrients:
    Protein
    Carbs
    Fats
Fiber (subset of carbohydrates but valuable to track and treat as a macro)

Hitting your macros means to structure your diet such that you land on or very near your goal numbers for the above items.

    Example:

    Goals: Protein: 150 Fat: 70 Carbs: 200 Fiber: 30
    Actual: Protein: 148 Fat: 67 Carbs: 196 Fiber: 32

^^ The above is an example of hitting your macros ^^^

    Example #2:

    Goals: Protein: 150 Fat: 70 Carbs: 200 Fiber: 30
    Actual: Protein 72 Fat: 45 Carbs: 365 Fiber: 18

^^ The above is an example of not hitting your macros ^^^

Should you hit your macros for the day or for every meal? Although I suppose it would work out the same, maybe? I look at the total day.

    For the day

I would also stress that micros (vitamins and minerals) are important as well and allot of people that may try IIFYM may miss on them if not paying attention.

A very important point there. Deficiencies in iron and calcium and vitamins are no joke, and people don't track these things. You can check how well you're doing (against the RDA values, anyway) through the Reports function on MFP even if your diary is not set to display specific micronutrient levels among the 5 things it can display.
