I haven't been doing very well when it comes to logging my calories because I'm only supposed to be eating 1400 a day. On an average day I realistically eat between 2000 and 2500 calories. Eating like a maniac (which I've always pretty much done) has me at an average BMI and in good health according to my last blood work. Perhaps 1400 is an unrealistic number for me? Or maybe I get more exercise than I realize? There's something off with my numbers because eating 1000 calories over what's recommended has me maintaining, and eating the recommended number leaves me feeling starving. What gives? Perhaps I should cut 500 a day from my average intake instead of using the recommended numbers? Because feeling like I'm going to starve to death just makes me want to binge (and therefore maintain?).

  • Yah I am not sure how much do you need to lose? I want to lose about 70-80 pounds so I take in about 1500 cals and have the same problem and I walk almost everday as well do you do vigorous exercise? ~Tamarah~

Are you trying to lose or maintain?

If you're trying to lose, and I don't why if you're healthy, I would do like you suggested.
  • I only want to lose about 12lbs. I don't do vigorous exercise, but I do bike around campus a lot for school and work with small children everyday after school. They are a handful so I put lightly active on my settings. Maybe if I change that to more active...

You should probably only have a deficit of 250 calories or so per day. You can change your MFP goals to lose 1/2 pound per week, which will give you a 250 calorie deficit.

Also, as you said, try changing your settings to active to get more calories.

1400 is probably too low for you, you are young and active. If you are maintaining on 2000+, why don't you cut that down to like 1800 if you want to lose, and adjust from there.
