Does drugs, liquor & smoking cigarettes can stop or destroy your goal? I know they are bad in our health, but i mean, if they can make you lose weight or gain weight? ,, and for me i don't do drugs & smoke cigarette, but i drink any kind of liquor like beer, wine & hard liquor in moderate, once a week or only in occasions, can i still lose weight in moderate drinking liquor?

P.S = I just read this in some article that drinking liquor at moderate is healthy than no drinking liquor at all.

2 glasses of wine a day is ok. Anything more, you will have trouble losing weight

For me, drinking alcohol takes away from my calorie count and are empty calories. I would rather eat my calories than drink them, that's why I don't drink while trying to lose weight. I really don't think drinking is a good idea, but that's just my opinion, nothing professional about it, though. And of course, hopefully, we all know that drugs and cigarettes don't help, either. Again, just my opinion.

If you can drink in moderation, without triggering an eating binge, then no issues. Supposedly, 1-2 drinks for men a day is fine.

I, on the other hand, want a bag of Doritos when I have a drink...so I stay away except for special occasions.

While your mileage may vary, drinking alcohol did not hinder my weight loss one bit. I lost 85 pounds in less than a year, a few before starting mfp, and I am pretty much at goal, all while drinking (vodka soda/diet 7) pretty much every day. I just make sure it fits within my calories. If you were to look at my diary, which you can (note that I have not logged the last few days, internet down due to a bad storm last Friday, but very consistent before that) you would see that I add 6 ounces of vodka to my "snacks" every day. Sometimes its more, sometimes less, but I figure it evens out. Aside from the booze, I eat healthy and get lots of exercise. Worked for me and didn't have to give up my vice. :-). Good luck!

I agree with what most people here are saying, just make sure it fits into your calorie goal and is not excessive. I include a glass of wine in my calorie total most week days. When it comes to weekends that are special occasions (birthday party or girls night), I just work out extra that day and watch what I eat. Sometimes it throws me over my daily goal, but I just commit myself to working harder the next day to counter it. I am not about to put my social life on hold for my weight loss! I want to be healthier, but to me that includes a balanced life, enjoying time out with my friends and family.

The main issue with drinking is avoiding the munchies, which I am doing much better on. Going out for drinks and ordering wine or vodka sodas is one thing, but adding the chips and dip or unhealthy jack in the box drive through at 3 am needs to be avoided! Anything is okay in moderation to me. I never want to do something while losing weight that I cannot maintain, and at my age my social circle is highly surrounded on going out and having a drink or two. Besides, it is nice to reward myself after a long and hard day with a glass of wine to relax.

Eh, I've found that smoking cigs makes me a little less likely to snack, but I'd never recommend someone actually start smoking...

Edit: Smoking other, uh, 'substances' have, in the past, made me freaking ravenous so I certainly wouldn't recommend that!

That is awfully broad. Methamphetamines will make you skinny for sure. Opiates, not so much. Booze is way too easy to add a ton of calories.

    Drinking in moderation is pointless

Fellow lush. I just ensure I have the calorie room for my beverages.

For reasons I don't entirely get, the pounds seem to come off easier when I make room for an evening drink.

I don't smoke or take drugs. Personal choice.

I drink once or twice a month, usually shots of vodka, tequila or Jagermeister. I work those into my daily calories on MFP and I do find myself drinking a little bit less because I may have done 6-7 shots in the past but now just do 3 because I don't want to go over on my calories.

Obviously drinking super frequently is a questionable health decision. But like anything else, it's your decision to make.

For the record my 1-2 drinking nights per month do not seem to have any impact on the scale.

Drugs. Don't do them unless you have to for an injury.

Liquor. I have a vodka mixer at night. Hasn't affected mine at all...I fit it in. However, if you're a boozer, don't. Just don't.

Cigarettes. I smoked a pack a day for 32 years. I quit a year and a half ago. My endurance, strength and breathing have improved greatly, so I'd say avoid these.
