Jogging/Skipping..

Firstly I am new to this so I have no clue, total couch potatoe..

Is there any preventative measure I can take to prevent damage to knees? I have good running shoes but other than that I am clueless. Seen alot people saying 'running will damage your knees over time' and so on. Is this true?

Is skipping going to be harder on my knees than running? Or is it a good alternative to mix things up.

Learn about foot plant, gait, & exercises for runners.

Youtube has reams of videos for runners and runner related issues. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=new+runner+tips

Also Runners World has great info for runners & training.

Be patient and dont over do things. Run slow and dont worry about how slow you are. Put speed on the back burner and build an aerobic base, by running. Just run slow and easy.

The wrong shoes can cause a lot of problems.

    ^^What the first responders said.

Also, do not neglect to stretch your lower body when you take up runner. Everything from the plantar fascia to your glutes & lower back. Stretch it all to help avoid injury.
