WTF?! I'm lopsided now?!

So, last Sunday morning I was ecstatic! I was getting into the shower, looked in the mirror and realized I look the thinnest I've ever looked and my belly wasn't hanging anymore. Sweet!

Then came Sunday night...I was getting changed, looked in the mirror and saw that I still looked fat as hell and my belly was hanging low again. I was so bummed!

Until I realized, I was looking at the other side than I had in the morning. I realized that on the right side of my body my belly doesn't hang anymore...and on the left side of my body it does and looks fatter.

So, after all this weight loss now I'm lopsided? Is that normal?

And if it keeps up after I've lost all my weight, can I get a deal on HALF a tummy tuck?!

I have funky looking legs. I have highly defined quads (so THAT'S what they're supposed to look like), but the area right above that is still lumpy and soft...how the heck does one fix that?

I'm nowhere near goal, but my current body is the same way. The left side of my belly is bulkier than the right. I don't know if it's a result of my second child or what, but it is what it is. I monitor my progress with photos, so I make sure to take pics from both sides.
  • The average human body is not 100% symmetrical. We are our own worst critics. I'm sure you look great.

I've always been lopsided! One boob is bigger, one side of my nose is "set back" farther. On and on!
If we were perfectly symmetrical we would be freaks. Don't stress too much about it.
Maybe liposuction could even out the belly if it's that noticeable.

Glad I saw this so that I can pass on my now 25 years of experience with this! I was in a car accident when I was 3, and it left my entire right side weaker and smaller than my left. My right arm and leg are smaller than their left counterparts, but my right tummy is fatter than my left. So here's what I do to correct that. When you're doing strength exercises (for you, it would be the ones where you feel it most in your belly) use a heavier weight on the fatter side. The muscle is weaker over there. So you need to build it up more. If you're doing a leg exercise (again, since yours is in the belly it would be the exercises where you feel it most in your obliques), wear a small ankle weight. And finally, when you're doing exercises that completely focus on your tummy make sure that you are not favoring one side (once you concentrate you'll know) and try to do at least 5 more reps per exercise on the larger side of the tummy. This way it won't take much more effort for you to correct it. Most people favor one side anyways, so it's not totally uncommon and it should be easy to fix with a bit of concentration on form.

Did you lose weight rapidly? That can happen to people that lose a lot of weight quickly. If not, it may just be how you lose weight (I lose weight on my waist first but it all eventually evens out). Unless you have always been "lopsided" and not noticed, it will probably even out.
  • I am also slightly lopsided. Im not a dr or fitness guru or anything else so this is just my opinions based on some things i have noticed. Most people are more right or left side dominate. I am right side dominate. My first step to go somewhere is normally with my right foot. When reaching i reach with my right hand automatically etc etc. As a result, if i were to try walking a giant straight line w/o a focus point it will slowly but surely veer to the right (right leg is stronger, slightly longer stride) which is why people who are lost will most often realize they just walked in a huge circle (didnt we already pass this tree?). Maybe try toning or working the opposite side until you even out?? Like i said just my opinion....

This makes s much sense! I have a health condition that caused muscle and nerve damage on my left side, and subsequently made it weaker...So, maybe even my stomach muscles are weaker on that side?

Definitely possible. My abs, back, shoulders, etc. All of it is weaker on the one side. Even though my back and abs weren't effected in the accident because of the way I walk and use my arms and legs, it causes weakness on that side. Remember that song "the (blank) bone's connected to the (blank) bone"? Same is true of muscles and I don't think many people realize it until something like this happens! It's amazing how adding a weight to my ankle affects my lower abs and back!

I watched an experiment in college. They used mirrors arranged so that you could only see half of a persons body from full frontal. The two halves looked like completely different people so much that you would not realize they were the same person.

My therory is that your Spine is curved , I like to Hang upside down and that keeps my back straight and i feel better . but at least my belly hangs evenly .... ... keep going and dont worry about it so much , ... you have done better then alot of other folks , ... just keep doing what works for you and remember to change it up every week so that the body seeks out that reserve fat pocket ( s )..... P.S. , i miss Punky B. Glad to see someone is keeping her Spirit alive.

I have an extra vertebra in my lumbar. This causes pain on my left side. I favor my left so my right side is a lot stronger. Because of this my spine is being pulled to the right and my head is. What I think is holding my head straight is not. I see a chiropractor and I am working on strengthening my left side to be equal. When I flex I cannot flex my left arm as much as my right. It happens!

I know this post is a little old, but ... I have the same issue!!

I've had it for years ... the left side of my belly is bigger than the right side. I'm hoping it will even out as I continue to lose weight (currently have lost 51lbs and have about 30 more to go). I almost took a picture of it this morning ... I think I'll do that before bed tonight to document it and see if it improves over time.
