In my house, Thanksgiving is Thanksgiving. We don't "jack" with it. It's just one day. i just don't gorge myself and i eat smaller portions but if i'm gonna have pumpkin pie, I want PUMPKIN PIE! ya know.0

Turkery is always good, you can roast your sweet potatoes with garlic and rosemary instead of butter and marshmellows0

I agree with ambercole, it is one day and I am going to eat the things that I like just in smaller portions. Instead of watching TV and taking a nap on the couch, I'm going to encourage the family to get up and go for a walk to the park or play a game of football outside. Enjoy the day, just add some physical activity to it!0

Totally this! Just pick the things on the table you know are better for you than other things ... have some mashed potatoes but leave the gravy. Have a croissant but don't have 10 like you would have last year or the year before. Definitely go for the darker veggies, load up on turkey but make sure it's lighter meat so it's leaner and don't eat the skin. Have some pie and ice cream but take a small sliver and ONE scoop.
Easy modifications, just correct portion (or smaller portion) size can save you a TON of calories at Thanksgiving. Plus, then you can enjoy MORE of everything instead of filling up on 3 or 4 things and being stuffed...you can try a little of everything.0 -

Ohhh, good idea! I think that we will take a nice stroll in the park this year. There's nothing like the smell of crisp leaves while taking a nice walk. Thanks for the idea!0 -

Less than 5 weeks until Canadian Thanksgiving so like what 10 weeks for you? Wow you are ahead of schedule!
I wouldn’t count calories that day but honestly I don't usually go too far over. Fill up on the nutritional items like carrots, peas, mashed potatoes made with milk not cream/butter and turkey w/o skin. You'll probably be full before pumpkin or apple pie is served and there are a lot of recipes on here for low-fat pumpkin pie or crust less pie so try those but really, I'm not a big fan of pie so I'd rather eat the potatoes. Gravy is just a fun bonus and the only real treat.
That being said, I made Mashed Sweet Potatos last year, only 2 WW points per serving (this recipe serves 2 people, large portions. I just doubled it last year to serve 8 people regular portions @ Christmas)
Mashed Sweet Potatoes
2 small sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch chunks
2 medium garlic cloves
¼ cup plain fat-free yogurt
1 tbsp sugar
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions: Boil potatoes and garlic until fork-tender approximately 15 minutes. Drain potatoes and garlic; transfer potatoes and garlic to a large bowl. Add yogurt and sugar to bowl, mash until smooth. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
WW Points: 2

You can also add cinnamon to mashed sweet potatoes to give them a holiday flavor and it's a appetite suppressant also. They are sooo yummy.0
