comparing weight / size

So I was talking to a coworker today - she had just gotten back from the doctor and was disappointed that she weighed in at 150. (She's probably 5 foot 2.) To look at her, I think she's at least a couple sizes bigger than me - but currently I'm weighing in at 159. I also have people (nosey people who ask) say that they don't believe that I'm wearing a size 14. I hear "You're so thin - why are you dieting" blah blah blah...but they've never seen me naked. lol Either I'm really, really off on judging my appearance and I'm way bigger than I think - or something weird is happening in the universe. Can people weigh the same but wear completely different sizes???

Oh yes. They definitely can. My stepmother and I wear the same size, but weigh completely different. It all comes down to your body type. I've known some girls that weigh the same as I do and we wear different sizes. Not to mention look completely opposite of each other. Body type, bone structure and how your body carries weight are major differences.0

Yea, 1lb of muscle is the same as 1lb of fat the only difference is muscle is more dense. A 6 foot 200lb man with 10%bf will look buff as hell but the same guy at 30% will look obese0

I make it a point to not compare myself to anyone anymore. I have seen people at 175lbs that look so much bigger than me and I am 200lbs it's all about body composition. I will admit I used to be mortified if anyone knew how much I weighed. I actually started crying and was so upset at my husband for letting my weight slip out to one of neighbours. After seeing many people who weigh less than me look so much bigger tells me that, that number I put so much importance on really means nothing,0

I could have four women in my shop the same height and weight and they might take different sizes if one is top heavy, another bottom heavy, thick in the middle or evenly proportioned. See it all the time.0

I agree that looks can be deceiving. I used to share clothes with my best friend and she was 30lbs heavier than me and an inch shorter but they still fit me perfectly. Minus the bust part may have been a little lose considering her boobs were 4x the size of mine, haha. Body composition is MUCH different throughout other people.0

I have a friend who is 40 pounds lighter then me and wears a bigger size then I do. Another friend of mine is 60 pounds lighter and wears the exact same size but nobody believes she weighs less then me because I look thinner. I have another friend who looks heavier then I am but wears a much smaller size and weighs almost 80 pounds less then me.
It all has to do with how people carry their weight. I stopped comparing myself to others in a critical view because it was driving me insane. The only weight/size comparing I try to do is Me today compared to me three months ago.0 -

This is very good advice. Thank you.0 -
Yep. I play the "guess my weight" game as often as I play the "guess my age" game.
I also sometimes lie about my weight because I dislike people judging your health based on it alone.
I'm around 250 and change, most people seem to either guess at around 175 or believe it when I lie.
Also, this website is neat- http://www.mybodygallery.com/search.html?gender=female&height=165&age=21&weight=68&pantSize=any&shirtSize=any&bodytype=
You can look at photos of people at any weight and height, it's also searchable by body type, size, and age. You can see a lot of different body types with the same weight, especially if you don't take into account height.0
