Hey Ladies,
So every time my monthly friend comes around, I just can't stay away from sweets ... chocolate especially !!! I most of the time stay within my daily calorie allotment but I feel so guilty that I'm getting derailed from my goal ... am I alone in this ?? Any tips or strategies to curb my sweet tooth ?!?

you are def not alone, but I am no help. I need help too. I eat everything in my path and if I dont have it I go buy it.
SOS Anyone???0 -
I make lots and lots of yummy stuff to snack on. Even since I found the Chocolate Covered Katie blog (I know I've mentioned it on here like a million times but it's so good!) it's easier to fit it into my calories. I also eat very very slowly without any distractions. That way it takes less to fill me up. I always have the sweet stuff around because I have a sweet tooth no matter if I'm on my period or not. But I want salty when my cycle comes around. I make my own chips and eat lots of popcorn with seasoning salt. Mmmmm! In my opinion it's not about stopping yourself. It's about finding ways to fit it in. Healthier options, homemade recipes, portion control. The little things add up.0

Just eat your chocolate.
As long as your in a calorie deficit you'll lose weight.0 -
I have a major chocolate sweet tooth too. I've discovered that chocolate almond or soy milk satisfies me, or you could try adding chocolate soy or almond milk into a shake.0

So PB2 isn't just ruining peanut butter?
They've now moved on to chocolate?0 -
FYI- I know I am not one of the ladies0

I can sympathize, I know a really good vitamin helps and your iron levels will fall and you may need extra of that as well. Call your Dr. it's a simple blood test.
the only other thing I can advise is to keep a big bowl of cut-up veggie in the fridge0 -
Its good stuff, I was skeptical but when I tried it it filled the lil void I had with my peanut butter, esp in shakes0

Oh man do I understand!!! I switched to Quaker Chocolate mini rice cakes. Definitely a healthier, lower calorie snack and they are actually pretty good.0

i hear ya !! i try to compensate by exercising a little longer ... does that help ?!? :laugh:0 -
I have the same craving each month. This month I've found some lowish calorie chocolate milk that I can sip which really curbs my chocolate craving and takes a bit more time to drink than eating a chocolate (it's gone in 1 minute!)
Also, try chocolate covered strawberries - more chocolate bang for your buck! Just melt the chocolate, dip the strawberries in it, and freeze for about 20 minutes on a baking sheet0 -
I think this is like the most general girl problem out there... :huh:0

I don't get a sweet tooth so much as lose all energy and motivation from low iron levels, and when I'm not motivated, I eat pretty much anything! I can second the PB2 chocolate peanut butter! I just got mine in today and tried a bit, and it tastes WONDERFUL! I got mine to mix with superfood and protein shakes. Maybe also try chocolate protein shakes after you workout?

does chocolate covered katie give healthy chocolate recipes ?? i'll definitely have to check it out ...
if you could see my diary for today i have eaten 1 chocolate pastry and 2 chocolate bars totalling 730 cals... eek!! i did work out extra hard today so i was able to still stay under for the day but i'm feeling really crappy for eating so poorly .... :sad:0 -

i will have to try that ... that might work for me thanks !!0 -
Ok first off, IMO PB2 is pretty much the *kitten* of peanut butter..I imagine the chocolate PB2 to taste like chocolate *kitten*.
Now with that being said, GURL eat yo chocolate if it's what you crave. As long as you're under goal you'll be fine..but if you're really all freaked out about calories try sugar free chocolate pudding. I usually take a mini (not fun size) candy bar (like heath, snickers etc..) and crumble it up into the sugar free pudding and top it with a little sugar free whipped cream. It's not bad and pretty low cal.0 -

you're really creative !! will def try this !! thanks0 -
Snickers, Twix, Reece's Pieces (NO CUPS), Kit Kat!!! My vices. I gave up Oreos and milk for all 3 of those (during that time). But what I have done now is get the bite size or "minis" in all of those, well 'cept the pieces of course. I only buy one each month in small quants to keep in the freezer. I'll eat 1 or 2 of the minis and about 10 of the pieces. On the 2nd or 3rd day when I really need it. But for the most part, it's all about willpower. I crave like everyone else. But this is what I do. Now if I can just do this with exercise lol. Willpower!!!0

Your alone... always alone that is what everyone who posts one of these threads is alone.
Seriously though, when you want to eat sweets work it in, if you know that you want sweets more during your period plan for it. Work out extra, eat the sweets and move on.0 -
I'm on the tail end of my period right now and this is the FIRST time I've EVER mananged to stay away from sweets/chocolate....I honestly don't even know how i've done it. Serioulsy I normally devour an entire package of oreos the day I start but this time I wouldn't let myself. I kept telling myself i had to drink 32 oz of water and wiat 20 mins before I gave in and by the time I did that I forgot all about it. I just kept doing that over and over again and it worked!! Not to say it will work next month but it worked this time and honestly..I feel like a badass for it!! Good luck, it's NOT easy!!!0

I feel you! I used to feel bad about eating sweets, but I've learned to work it into my daily caloric intake. For me, I usually switch to post-workout chocolate protein bars during this time instead of protein shakes. This is a totally psychological thing for me, though. I just feel satisfied when I have solid food instead of liquid.
I also increase my coffee intake. I wouldn't recommend caffeine if you have bad cramps or headaches though. Drinking coffee always effectively kills my cravings (on and off my period) and adding in a tablespoon of sugar free vanilla creamer gives me the sweetness I usually crave.0 -

congrats girl !! maybe i'll try and drink some more water to keep me full ... it's not even about being full for me though ... i just crave chocolate, full or not0 -
i know ... totally TMI guys ... you know how it is when Flo comes to town !!! Ick .....0

I make my own chocolate haystacks its cocoa (Or if your like me 8oz real chocolate), cocoa nut, rolled oats, sugar, butter, vanilla, and milk. But in my family they usually go bye bye in a few days.0

i either get my chocolate craving with greek yogurt with splenda and cocoa or I manage to fit into my macros and calories for the day a frappuchino...
I love that a light mocha frappuchino has less calories than a snickers... (obviously light and without cream..).
It's a good exchange for me!
Edit to add: Also, I found out that exercising kept the cravings away... This time, during ToM I had less cravings because I was busy at the gym, and that naturally kept me from being hungry... Saying that, I still had my frappuchino over the weekend..0
