This is too hard! I want to give up.

I work hard all week and try my best to stay on plan. However every Friday I really just want to give up. This is too hard! Any advice to help keep me motivated?

Mentally Friday is really tough on me. How can I prevent myself from giving up?

By "give up" I mean stop taking rest days. I hate my weekly rest day (which I have scheduled for each Friday).

Maybe try to find a reward to give yourself after a week of hard work. I give myself an at home spa day. It gives me something to look forward to and I won't do it if I haven't earned it. I love my rest day. When I have to get back on track, I just keep repeating "first step is the hardest first step is the hardest" to myself. Then when I get going again, I realize that all I really needed to force was that initial nudge. The rest comes pretty easily after that.

Call them "Prep Days" because that's the perfect time to wash clothes for workouts the next week and go grocery shopping. I like to foam roll and go for a walk to stretch out on my prep days.

Your body needs rest. It's in our design. The car that runs full throttle all the time is out of gas the fastest. Rest does not mean getting in a vegetative state though. Go do some meditation, walk, and focus on what's around you, the vastness of it all.

friday is my rest day too, man.
i know it's hard...but we're on this journey together and we are here to support each other.

    dont give up!

    it's what our body needs!

and usmcmp makes a great point....i only have a couple compression tops, and by friday they stink to high hell.
do laundry, feed the beast, sleep well, watch movies, get your noodle wet.

no ticker, so I can't see if there's been any progress for you. My motivation is seeing that scale go down practically every time I get on it and thinking about how pissed off at myself I'd be if I saw it creep back up after my hard work and sacrifices. Set a smaller goal and reward yourself with a new article of clothing or something when you meet it. KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE !!!

Plan fun activities on your rest day. Don't just sit around and do nothing. Reward yourself by reading a good book or going to the movie, or having an alcoholic beverage (if you like them), and think about how good it will feel to exercise again on Saturday!!!

I like it when you get wet. From sweating. While working out. I know a good thigh exercise and stretch, all in one.

I always do extra housework on my rest day. At least it keeps me busy while all of my workout gear is getting cleaned and I'm doing food prep for the week.

agreed, rest days suck. They make me feel lazy and unproductive. I often end up going for a run on my rest days because for me its a good break from lifting... I know you are the opposite though with all your crazy running you do all week, lol.

I lift early in the morning, so, for the rest of the day, I rest.

You should be on the motivation thread with this but however I'll try to respond positively to you.
Its only you that can make this choice, as we all do here. If Friday is your bete noir, then try to plan something special that will take your mind off food - go for a swim, or take up something that gets your hands filthy so that you cant pick up food! I usually clean my motorcycle - oil does not taste good!
It is hard, no one denies that. But, as time passes, things get easier and you learn a regime, Its the habit of overeating that is so hard to break.
If you want to add me, then please do, I will try to help you where I can but in the end, its your life, and your choice.
    Good luck.

I feel for ya. Sunday is my rest day, and I hate it. I try to fill my day up with meetings and family time so I can not have the time to workout and stress my delicate muscles. They need their rest as I work them pretty hard all of the other days of the week.

It's just such a strong urge to jump in and do something though. I want to feel that achey muscle feeling. I think it's an addiciton to those endorphins. I want to be in my zone.

My ticker has barely moved all year! I will try to keep my eye on the prize and find a way to reward myself for sticking to my Friday plan.

My ticker has not moved because I am at my goal weight. My Friday plan each week is to take a rest day. I will keep my eye on the prize and reward myself with a maple bacon donut for taking a rest day as planned. Thanks!
