Getting frustrated!!!

I just need some positive encouragement. I've been reading success stories, but I still find that I am getting down on myself. I am not trying to loose a ton of weight, but my goal of wearing a bathing suit comfortably while on vacation in August is coming quick! And I am in no way ready for that suit!
I have been running for 2 1/2 months and this past week and a half I have just increased to 3.5 miles a day. My calorie intake is at 1200 and I have been pretty spot on with this. However, I have lost very little weight. Actually only 3 pounds. I know muscle weighs more, but I don't even see a difference, and no one else seems to be noticing either. I pretty much just want to throw the towel in. :ohwell:

I have been here since January and lost only 2 lbs. sometimes it takes a very long time. be patient and keep going!!0

I know this probably sounds odd, but you need to eat more than 1200 calories on the days you run.
Otherwise you're not netting enough calories for your organs and brain to run properly, the body can get pretty upset by this and will actually start using your muscle mass. This is because your brain cannot convert your fat stores into energy, but it can convert your lean muscle mass.
So if your HMR says you burn 300 calories running, you need to eat 1500 calories. Because..........
1500-300=1200 net calories.
Make sense?

^This is very good advice. It sounds counter-intuitive, but a lot of us have found that we won't lose the weight if we drop our calories too low. MFP adds your exercise calories in for a reason.0 -
I am wondering if by cutting calories to 1200 and adding exercise if you have put your body into starvation mode? I know it is important to get at least 1200 calories and you are possibly working at a deficit to that. Also I don't know how heavy you were to begin with but if you think about it in percentage of weight loss instead of lbs it might help. In addition, if you aren't trying to lose weight and just wanting to look better in a swimsuit you might benefit from strength training like pushups squts and sit ups? My mom lost 150 lbs and at the end she had to actually add calories because she wasn't eating enough to support her exercise. When she did that she lost the last 10 lbs. Good luck!0

Have you been eating back your exercise calories?
seems weird but you need to eat more on days you workout then days you don't, your body needs fuel.
Also get a proper calculation of how many calories you need to consume. 1200 seems low for a runner.
here is the math I use:
Take your BMR and your TDEE
Substract your BMR from your TDEE
split the difference in half
add that number to you BMR
the number is how many calories you should consume on days you workout. also you can look online as to how many g of protein, fats and carbs you should eat in day.
also you should consider adding some form of weight training, cardio alone wont get you the body you want...everything comes with balance and time

I once did similar exercise/diet for 9 weeks...nothing happened on the scale... I didn't notice any change in my body either. And I was young then (in my 20's). Weight lifting coach told me that I was doing anaerobic exercise and that would not help. Needed to keep heart rate lower...don't work harder...work less and work longer. Later in life (my late 30's), I did several things: daily treadmill (fast walk primarily - for 40mins/day) and spiced it in with some weight machines, steps, yoga 2x / week and a moderate diet. I steadily lost 2 pounds per week and, by 40 yrs old, I looked better than I had ever looked in my life...the best I could really.
I'm not a trainer or a runner...but I would say mix up your exercise routine.... Hope you get some turbo boost results soon!

Thanks so much for all the replies! I just plug everything in to MFP and make sure I am getting close to the net calorie amount. I did look back at this last week and starting with saturday, I had -121 remaining, 49 remaining, 240 remaining, 73 remaining, 244 remaining, -65 remaining, and then of course today. So my trend is definitely under the 1200 calorie intact. I will try to shoot for 1300 calories including my exercise calories. Hopefully that will help!

You haven't given MFP a chance. You'r enot going to drop the weight you want in 1 month for a vacation.

You will hear this alot today, but it's for a reason!!! EAT MORE! TDEE-20%! It drops the fastest that way. When you are on a starvation diet (like you are at 1200 calories or less) you must eat back at least 50% of your exercise calories, or your metabolism slows down, and you quit losing weight! Feed those growing muscles so they can burn the fat!0

Could you be eating more than you think??? Running isn't a huge calorie burn, you aren't in starvation more, and running died t build much (if any) muscle. If you truly are eating only 1200 you should lose weight.0

I am pretty miticulous with what I am eating. I track and measure everything. So I believe I am pretty spot on.
Maybe I'll incorporate some weight training too?0 -
Okay... so this is crazy to me. I did all the calculations as you listed and it comes out to me eating 1,934. This just seems like a ridiculous amount to eat to lose weight! I am not by any means trying to loose a lot, but it just seems if I eat all those calories, that I would maintain my weight.0
