NSV Jeans! & the Tape Measure is my new friend

Good news! I can fit into a pair of jeans that I haven't been able to fit into in probably a year. Yesterday, on a whim, I tried them on, and yay! They fit, zipped right up, no problem, so that was nice.

Also, I took the advice that I've read on here, and I bought a measuring tape. The scale is going down slowly, but the inches are coming off my waist and hips at a pretty good rate, which is a good motivator for me. The measuring tape was a good investment for 2 bucks!

So, even though the scale is not going down too much, I apparently am getting smaller. So, for those of you getting discouraged by the scale, start measuring.

YES! Way to go!!! Keep measuring. I only look at the scale to get a handle on body fat percentage and muscle mass. Screw the number.
  • Thanks everyone! Lol about the muffin top, cause it's still there, for sure. But perhaps a little less muffin-y?

But yes, apparently muscle does weigh more than fat. I have heard that over & over, but was still too concerned with the # on the scale. Even though I have always heard people saying it matters more how your clothes fit, than the number on the scale....well, now I believe!

Have a good day, you guys!

Congrats!! I know you will see more and more of this. I fit into a pair (granted they have lycra in them) that I couldn't zip before, a few more pounds and they will be better. It made me see when you look at yourself daily, it's not the best eye.
Inches matter a lot, keep up the good work!!

Good for you and congrats. Just dont let that measuring tape replace your scale in the same way I did. I found I was weighing myself 5 to 6 times a day. So, I Switched to the measuring tape. Felt great to see the tape move...... but then I started with the measuring 4 to 5 times a day. So now I do both....... I must be crazy!
  • Thx! Yeah, I still do the scale every morning. Can NOT break that habit, but I'm not obsessing about it so much. I mean, I get on it, I track it here. But I am understanding more about water retention, muscle weighs more than fat, fluctuations due to monthly cycle, etc.....

The measuring tape, I'm doing that maybe once a week? No particular time. In the mornings when I have to go to work, I run around the house getting ready, like I'm shot out a cannon, so there's no time to mess around with the tape, so I don't think I'll ever get too obsessed with it. And I would be too scared to measure at night when my belly is full of the entire produce section, lol! I eat alot of roughage during the day, ha!

    Have a good day, people!!!

I;ve heard 2 wks for measuring but I don't think it really matters. I like weighing daily (when I get up) because I see my body fluctuations. You can be 180 on Monday, lose a pound on Friday and show 180 on Saturday weigh-in because of a lot of factors.
You might think you never lost even if it's 179 the next day because you don't weigh for another week.

I understand you can drive yourself nuts, but for me it's less crazy doing it that way. We all have to do what fits our personalities but I think more than once a day is getting compulsive.
