Emotional Eating..Need help ASAP

My best friend's mother passed away after a long battle with cancer. To be more specific, my friend is more like a sister to me & the long running line is that her mother is my "other mother". She was like a second mom to me & an amazing woman. I have yet to fully process this & right now all I want to do is eat. I am an emotional eater. I have a bag of goldfish at my desk & I just want to eat the whole thing.
I am at work & have a desk job, so there isn't much I can do to help or distract me. I don't want to mess up everything I've been working for, but I'm having trouble staying strong.

I'm very sorry for your loss. It's something that's never easy to go through.
I found that what helped me take my mind off it is to get up and walk around. I would eat lunch at my desk and take my 30 minutes and go for a nice walk outside. I also started to wear my Ipod in one ear while working, it relaxes me a lot.
Chewing gum might also help a bit if you feel like munching and know you shouldn't.
I hope this helps0 -
Oh.
First, I am so sorry for your loss. That is just too sad. I too am an emotional eater with a desk job. I do my darndest to NOT have food at work. In the morning I bring my mid-morning snack, go home for lunch, and when I come back in the afternoon I bring my mid-afternoon snack. It's WAY to easy for me to pull out the bag of Bugles or Twizzlers when I'm sitting here bored. Can you put the goldfish in a drawer - out of sight, out of mind? - then take a walk around the office or just step outside for 5 minutes for some fresh air? You will push through this - you will! Just take it one hour at a time - or even 5 minutes at a time! **hugs**

get rid of the goldfish. just throw the bag away. or just eat the bag, but acknowledge that you made an emotional choice and then stop keeping goldfish at your desk.

They're at my desk for a snack & I eat them in moderation & go by the serving size. I used to a lot of chips & this week I bought them when I was craving a salty snack. I'm not throwing them away, I just bought them.0

I am so sorry for your loss. It is hard not to lose control at times like these, Try to comfort yourself with a hot cup of tea or cocoa. You may find it soothing. If she loved you as much as you seem to love her, she was proud of your success and would be hurt that you are so upset that you let it all go.0

I do have my favorite tea at my desk...that might actually help. Thank you.0

So sorry for your loss. Be reasonable with yourself. What is eating a ton of goldfish going to accomplish here? Is it going to make you feel better? In my opinion, probably not. I think it will do more harm than good. Not only will you be grieving, but you will also be disappointed in yourself. Try to think two steps ahead. Have some goldfish, but make yourself stop. You are already able to recognize the issue and that's great.
The food literally offers no comfort in large quantities, just guilt. You are strong and can do this.0 -
When I lost my grandmother the beginning of the month I took my sadness and grief out to the track and ran it out in the rain, no one could see me crying so it didnt matter if i just let it all out. I also have a desk job and I buy the kashi bars if i want something sweet at least I know it's not horrible for me but I always try to down a glass or two of water to see if maybe I'm just thirsty before I eat it. So sorry for your loss.0

^^^^ this. Tea always helps me when I crave sweets or just generally want to munch. I'm so sorry for your loss.0
