Metabolism Reset: Give Up?

So i started a metabolism reset on June 1st, starting at 140 pounds, I have just done a lot of tracking and sums and worked out the past months calories (added and divided) to be around 1650 a day, my BMR is 1680 (from a lab test) RMR around 1360. In total from the beginning of my reset when I was eating around 1200 cals a day and maintaining, I have gained 6 pounds. In 8 weeks of gradually getting up to 1650, the past month has been 1650 per day, when all added up and divided, some days 1500 some 1900 etc. Do i give up now and just go back to 1200 . How can I be constantly gaining on maintenance calories, COnfused, disheartened and ready to throw the towel in. Some advice or support from people who understand would be amazing right now. Thanks in advance.

You gained 6 lbs, but have you gained inches? When you eat at a deficit for a while, your body burns through its glycogen stores. Glycogen is bonded to water, so when the glycogen goes, so does the water. This causes the large initial loss most people see when they start eating less. Once you start eating at maintenance again, your body will refill those glycogen stores, and the water will come back causing an apparent weight gain. Water is quite dense, so 6 lbs is within the realm of possibility for water weight gain. If you have been tracking inches, and haven't gained there, you haven't gained fat. If you haven't been tracking inches, start. I would recommend you continue eating at maintenance for another 2-3 weeks and see if your weight levels out (understanding that you may fluctuate up or down by 5 lbs or more in a normal day, so watch the average, not the individual values). If it does, you know you only gained water. You might also want to look at how you are determining how many calories you consume. Are you using a food scale? If not, that might be the culprit. Hope that helps.0

Thanks for replying, I have gained almost an inch in my waist and the other measurements are more or less the same, I have been using a scale for years so I use that but often guess it correct, then weigh it just incase t check and yup im pretty good at guessing these days. Good with portion sizes. I will stick at it until after my brthday weekend August 9th and see what happens. 6 pounds seems like a lot. Yes it does bounce up and down between 141-144 depending on what I have eaten, salt, carbs eaten out etc. Thanks for support!0
