My advice is to forget the charts and what "looks best" and go with what feels good to you. When you feel comfortable in your body, and moving around and being active isn't uncomfortable, then you are at a good weight. JMHO.

if you're only concerned about what weight "looks the best"... you may be doing it for the wrong reasons. Healthy looks the best.

105-140 anything in that range would be great! In other words, the better question I have for you is how do you feel about your weight? Only you know what is best for you! We are all so different.

When i said 'looks best' I mean't as in health, because i don't want to get too skinny, so that i look un healthy, i want to be at a weight where i look fit and healthy. Not what looks most attractive. But i am 130 lbs now... so i'm not sure.

healthy isn't necessarily reflected by a particular number on the scale, either... check this out:

then you should consider revamping your projected self image. If you're a healthy weight, but not happy with how you look, again.. take a look at the link that I posted. How you feel you look.. and how you actually look isn't about diet.. or weight loss.. that's an issue with perception.

Like asking here about what a good number is... it wouldn't matter what we said, right? Since you're already at a healthy weight.. but feel huge.
  • I totally understand....you are here for the right reasons...one you want to be healthy two you want to look good to others and feel good in your own skin. There is never a wrong answer to wanting to lose weight and I suggest others who don't know you to be careful with what they say. I think a good weight would be how you feel with...if at 130 you want to be more fit then work hard and see hoe you like urself at 125 and then go from there. Just be healthy about it. If it helps I liked myself and felt better about myself at 125 but I think 120 would be good for me. As long as your weight is realistic then whatever makes you happy. Remember this is for you not for anyone else! We are both the same im 5'3 130 but 23 and pear shaped. Keep these ideas in mind hope this helps :)

do you know your body fat percentage? what kind of activity/exercise do you get?

There really is no one-size-fits-all answer. It will depend on your body composition (ie how much lean mass you have and how much fat mass), your natural body shape (how you store your fat as well as your bone structure), and personal preference.

Someone with a higher percentage of lean mass will look slimmer at a higher weight than someone with a lower percentage of lean mass. That's why measurements and what you look like in the mirror/photos are more important than the scale for measuring progress. Don't aim for a particular weight, aim for a certain "look" (after health concerns are addressed, obviously). If you're after a leaner, more defined look, then you might want to consider resistance training, and eating enough to change your body composition.

Body shape makes a difference too. For example, I tend to store excess fat around my abdomen and back, with narrow hips, flat bum and small boobs. If I was more of an hour-glass shape, I'm sure I'd be happier to settle at a higher level of fat. Because I'm not very curvy, I'd rather be a bit leaner, to get rid of my love handles and back fat.

Finally, I agree that you may need to work on your self-perception. Regardless of changes you may want to make, at 130 lbs, you are certainly not "huge". It's not uncommon for women, especially young women, to feel the pressure to look a certain way, based on media images etc. Also bear in mind that there is usually a noticeable difference in a woman's body when she is in her late teens/early 20s, than from how she looked in her early-mid teens. It's completely normal to have more fat as you get to the end of puberty, but understandably, that can be hard to accept. Just, please don't fall into the trap of thinking that if you feel insecure and "huge" now, everything will be ok if you just get thinner. If you're starting with a skewed self-perception, that's not going to improve by getting ever more thin.

    ah, there we go.

definitely. If you want to change how your body looks... seriously look into resistance training.
stronglifts, starting strength, new rules of lifting for women... etc.

not at all. but if you're not comfy with how you look, again, check out the first link I sent about Staci. http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/07/21/meet-staci-your-new-powerlifting-super-hero/

...and then look into any of the progressive strength training programs. Seriously. The story above should have a pretty huge impact.

If you are at a healthy weight and have that perception of yourself , then you need to start trying to revamp your thinking if you were big for a long time then it might take a minute but you have to start seeing yourself as beautiful and start accepting yourself. the thinking have might just start you on a self destructive path with an eating disorder. if you feel you look huge maybe you should tone up if you need to and work on that side of the spectrum trying to get body definition but most of all you gotta love yourself and the skin your in good luck.:flowerforyou:
