Contraceptive pill undoing all my hard work!

For the past couple of months I have been steadily losing weight, everyday my weight has been reducing, total of about 12 pounds, I started back on my contraceptive pill about 5 days ago and already have jumped back up up 2 pounds and I can notice a big difference in my tummy area!!!
I haven't changed anything in my regime apart from taking my pill, really disappointed as now everyday I see my weight going up and I've been working so hard to get to where I am to see it just being taken away from me.
Is there any advice as to ways in which to counteract this or is it just something I have to put up with while I'm on it??????
Thanks!

change the pill.. some other brand perhaps won't have that effect.0

Chances are it is just water weight if you aren't doing anything different. Or it may just be the hbc you are on. since there are so many different pills out there and everbody is different it's really hard to tell. I used the depo and it bled straight for 3 months and gained 30lbs in 3 weeks. My sister in-law used it and everytime she got a shot she lost 10lbs and never had a period. Watch it for the first month and if it's a pattern that continues then talk to your doctor about switching pills. I did some research and I choose Alesse beacuse it isn't supposed to have as many side effects. It's also supposed to be great for weight loss. I lost 10lbs in the first 2 months I was on it and now it seems that, that has bottomed out and it looks like it is time for a change again.
Just don't be afraid to say something to your doctor, it's ok to switch it up. but it may take a while to get the one that works best for you. Just don't give up. I have been on to many to count.0 -
I am on the depo shot and I have about a 10 lb weight gain when I am on it. My advice is stay at it. After about 3 weeks, the pounds start coming off again.0

I've been on the pill for over 10 years and it never affected my weight.... Also 2 lbs could be from anything. hormones, one restaurant meal with too much salt...0

I've been on zovia for 9 years and have never had that problem. Some pills are different than others, some types of birth control are different than others. It could be the dose, it could be the brand ... it can take a while for your body to re-regulate itself once you start taking it. If any of the side effects persist you should ask the doc who prescribed it to you what you can do about it.0

You didn't gain 2 lbs of fat in a couple days so there's something else at play. Stick to your calorie budget and it should all even out.0

It's 2lbs and you've only been taking the pill for 5 days. First, it's not fat gain and could of been due to a lot of different reasons. Second, 5 days isn't enough time to see how your body will react to a new pill. It can take 3-6 months for your body to get used to a new medication.
The birth control pill will not make you gain fat. It can make you retain water which will show as a gain on the scale. It can make you feel hungrier causing you to eat more. It can make you more tired due to hormone changes which could make you not as active.0 -
I want to add something into this not related to weight. I agree to watch and see how things go for a little while, and I agree with talking to your doctor if problems arise. The important thing to keep in mind that you are taking contraception to keep from getting pregnant, when you change, your hormones change and you can have a lag where you aren't protected. My youngest grand daughter and grand son (yes twins) was the result of changing contraception multiple times in a short period of time. Although I love them and can't imagine life without them, it was an unplanned, and financially they are just now recovering and the grand son got married two weekends ago0

Thanks heaps for all your feedback, I didn't think it was fat but I have noticed my belly become wobblier hehe, but yea sounds like it could be a water thing, will keep an eye on it and talk to my doc if it gets a lot worse.
Thanks again :happy:0
