Dried fruit and nuts, Good or Bad?

So to kick my unhealthy snack habit of chocolate and crisps, I switched to buying wholefoods pecan mix or mixed tropical fruit mix to snack on but was shocked when tracking to find calorie and fat intake very high!
So the question is, is it really a healthy snack ?

Healthy, but in small amounts. I eat a couple ounces of nuts a week and around 1/4 cup of raisins a week. That's enough for me0 -
Nuts are very high in fat, so while natural and healthy in moderation, they can derail your progress. In addition, most dried fruit mixes are covered in processed sugar. Nothing is wrong with dried fruit so long as it is natural (no extra sugar) and is chased with more water than usual (you need that hydration!). Just keep those in mind, keep your overall daily fat intake lower, and you'll be fine. Just don't fall into the trap of "It's healthy, so i can go to town" as somethings, while healthy, need to be eaten in small quantities and not every day. Just my 2 cents.0

Thankyou!! Totally makes sense now Great Advice0

Measure it out that stuff is good. Dried fruit is high in iron and vitamin C. Nuts have some great mono and poly fats.0

They're not "good" or "bad". Neither calories nor fat are inherently bad. It depends how much of them you're eating, and your nutritional needs.
Log them. See how they fit into your calorie goal. See how they fit in with the other nutrients you get from the rest of your foods.0 -
I know how you feel. I call it my crack snack...So good, especially the one you buy at costo. I was surprised as well as to the calorie content,so ill repackage it into smaller sandwich bags, like 1/4 cup, and stick to that. Hard to limit it to that because its soooo good. But at least this way i can have a taste for a few weeks. Good luck!0

Watched an interesting programme last week about someone who ate 3 portions of almonds a day and they only put on a pound in a whole month. They have discovered that when eating whole nuts most of the fat is not broken down and is dust excreted.0

IMHO no snack is "good" or "bad" if you are eating it mindfully. If you know the portion size and have a good accurate sense of the nutritional profile, you can fit anything into your plan. If you like chocolate, it works if you keep it to tiny portions (I personally love Dove's "Promises" because the individually wrapped portions are 42 calories and they are smooth and sweet and DELICIOUS).
But except for raw vegetables, any snack food becomes a monster if you're eating it without paying attention to portion size, and are munching mindlessly. Nuts have a lot of fat, dried fruit has a lot of fructose. I eat both regularly, but only in small, carefully-measured portions and only a couple of times a week. Store-bought trail mixes often also have a lot of added sodium and even sprayed-on fats. It doesn't mean they're "bad" but it does mean you need to be aware of your portion size and the calories in that portion size.
For anyone with a need to keep their fingers and mouth busy and eat snacks while doing something else like walking or watching TV, then there's going to be a need to redirect that impulse to something like crudites (or even ice cubes, LOL) until they can get that impulse under control. It's definitely been an issue for me in the past.0 -
I don't eat more than a serving a day and that is usually as a snack for a hike or a workout. Nutritionally dense for sure!! Watch your portions and you'll be fine.0

good in portion control...i tend to eat too much though lol...love nuts!! hahahaha0

Lol, It would appear that I've been eating the tub full instead of a handful (My Bad) Lol
So need to now re-look at portion control
Thankyou all for the great advice and helpful suggestions0 -
i don't know. one ounce of pretzel sticks is about 110 calories. 1 ounce of cashews 156. neither is filling... I gotta find a better snack.... i've been trying 80 cal yogurt this week...0
