Family road trips were always a blast for us, and I was just wondering what your family traditions were regarding food. What did your family always pack or buy on road trips?

My grandmother packed frozen hershey bars in the cooler. Such good stuff!

twix. those and kit kats are my favorite. that's an excellent call right there. only problem is they melt fast as hell so if the bag is getting direct sunlight during the trip it gets messy.

i've tried pretzel m&m's a few times and i love pretzels and i love m&m's but i can't get into the combo. something doesn't click for me with them

I'm not really big on pretzels, but the combination of salty and sweet just drives me nuts. Around Christmas time I like to take the normal bagged pretzels and melt Hershey's kisses on top and press an m&m into the center. Pure magic right there.

But yeah, the melting for Twix and Kit Kats is a big problem

Next time whisk some melted butter and peanut butter together with the chocolate (melted) then pour over. It's delicious like that.

hold on, let me see if i can find the Halloween recipe for just this. It's spiders made out of pretzel sticks and kisses. brb

can't find the one i'm specifically looking for but if you type "halloween spi*" in your browser you'll find a ton of options. They look awesome and taste great.

Lol. Packed would be ethnic food we kids didn't want to eat (which I would HAPPILY eat now if someone made it; christ, that stuff takes ages to make. Like a person would have to get up at 5 am to have it done by noon).

Therefore, bought, to keep us quiet: Cheetos, Doritos, Coke, McDonalds.

lots of water...... beef jerky...... mixed nuts....... and if a stop for "real" food needed i look for a subway for quick or ruby tuesday(blackened talapia, spaghetti squash, and salad bar every time) if i want to sit and relax for a bit.

We would always have a cooler full of ice tea, gatorade and water.

When I was a kid the only time we were allowed to eat fast food was when we were on a trip, so we always looked forward to a happy meal and maybe, if we were lucky, our parents would allow us to have a pop.

Now I like to bring chocolate, chips, trail mix and fruit.
