Canned soup- good or bad?

Now, I'm fully aware that having a bowl of top ramen for lunch wouldn't be a ideal choice (sadly, I used to live off that stuff!) but just now I had a 1 cup serving of Amy's organic lentil vegetable soup (low sodium variety) and a bowl of diced mango and pineapple. I really didn't feel motivated to make myself the lunch omelete I was going to eat so I'm saving that until dinner. Anyway, besides high sodium levels is there anything about canned soup that's "bad" from a nutritional standpoint? I read the back of the can and was content with the nutritional information. In fact, as an active young adult I need not even stress about sodium levels very much. I guess I'm just curious as to other people's opinions! So, guys...premade soup. Yes or no?

Not as good as the fresh stuff, but like you said, better than others. I like soup. Okay, fine, I LOVELOVELOVE soup, but my husband does not , so instead of having to eat a whole entire batch of soup myself, I buy the canned stuff when a craving hits. It sounds like you made a better nutritional choice for your soup than condensed, high-sodium stuff. Good choice! :)

I'm leery of canned goods because of the BPA linings of the cans, but I've realized that I can't avoid them for a few things like olives and beans. For soup-they do make a few that come in cartons so I'd chose one of those over a canned kind :)

It's fine once in a while, the sodium is what turns me off though.

I eat the heck out of Amy's soups. They don't have BPA in their linings so that's not an issue. My naturopath said that they're a great choice for a quick lunch and he has advanced training in nutrition so I'll take his word for it.

for me personally it doesn't fill me up at all and the sodium is astronomical.
