Grocery Shopping

I've adopted a new strategy when grocery shopping. It seems to be working for me, because it is stopping me from bringing bad food home. I am limiting the total calories I can put in my cart. I shop twice per week and only allow myself to purchase 5500 calories per trip (my goal is around 1600 per day). It is pretty enlightening when I pick up a bag of pretzels and realize the bag is 25% of my calories for that trip. I find I can put it back much easier. If I am going to go out for a meal - I subtract a little from my grocery store total.

We only shop once a week normally...and your strategy would end up being expensive for us. But if its working for you that's great!

I read some place that you should only buy things from the periphery! The deeper you go into the lanes the worse the food is :P
  • I find I am spending less - but I am just buying for myself. Probably wouldn't work for a family as I am not taking advantage of bulk buying. I used to shop once a week or less, but now I am shopping twice a week so my produce is fresh.

I agree with shopping the periphery - that's also a great suggestion.

That is so true. I have been doing this lately, and it seems to be helping :)
