I am always looking for homemade condiment recipes and this is one of my favorites. For vinegar, you can use apple cider or balsamic or whatever your tastes. I chose a Dark Chocolate balsamic the last time I made this and it came out great. I get flavored oils here...http://www.oliveoilarizona.com
6 T vinegar
1 cup tomato sauce plain organic tomato sauce
1 small can tomato paste (can't recall if they are 4 or 6 oz)
3 T Worcestershire sauce
3/4 T Frank's Red Hot sauce
1 1/2 T yellow mustard
3/4 T salt (optional)
1 dash cayenne pepper.
3 t lemon juice
1 1/2 t liquid smoke flavoring (Wright's & Lazy Kettle are pretty pure)
Add vinegar and all other ingredients, except mustard to a sauce pan and heat slowly. Put mustard in a small bowl and slowly stir in a couple tablespoons of sauce until well blended. Then add mustard mixture back to sauce in pan.
Bring to a boil, and lower heat. Let simmer for a few minutes. Let cool, then refrigerate. It tastes great straight from the pan, but it's even better after it's been refrigerated overnight. It also tends to thicken up a bit once refrigerated.
