Couch potato newbie needs exercise motivation advice

How do I develop a solid motivation for exercise?

I know that exercise is the key to long term weight management and that it simply isn't enough to merely eat well. The two really do go hand in hand.

Please could you share with me your ideas / rationale / inspiration for staying motivated to exercise?

So few kg down, so many kg to go...

"The woods are lovely, dark, and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep."

The more regular you are w/exercise, the easier it is to stay motivated to do it. So start small TODAY w/whatever you feel like doing, even if it's only walking to the mailbox & back. Then every day, add a little more distance or a little more time. Once you build up to 30 min of walking, try to jog one of those 30 min, then the next day 2, & keep adding. The more you do, the better you'll feel, but I know VERY few people who LIKE to exercise. Most of us just like the results. So like the Nike ad says, "Just DO IT!"

If you do it enough it becomes habit.

My biggest problem is boredom. I started getting bored of going to the gym so I am currently swimming 2-3 times a week and gymming just the once. I know I should go more but once is more than zero so I am not going to let it get to me.

Try and do something everyday. If I am being lazy, I will walk once around the block because at least thats something.

I find it easiest to walk on my lunch break while at work. I walk 45-50 minutes everyday. Starting was the hardest part. It makes the afternoon not as sluggish. I have a desk job so anything helps. I find now that I can't do without the walk. I can't wait until lunch everyday. I never thought I would say that in a million years. Good luck with your journey!
