Mental Blocks With Losing Weight

I've realized recently that part of the reason I've been having so much trouble with losing weight is because of a mental block.
I know what to do, but I'm not doing it consistently. It's not because it's so hard, but because I cannot keep my motivation consistent. So yeah, I don't believe I have a knowledge problem-- just a motivation problem.
I decided the trick is to find out what (healthy motivation) really makes you tick and what (healthy motivation) you truly care about, then exploit the heck out of it. No negative motivations allowed.
Have you ever had a mental block with your weight loss and/or fitness goals? What did you do to overcome it?

Mental blocks? Big time. I once heard it said that if you are not changing a behavior, then you must be getting something out of it. What could I be getting out of being overweight? All I can think of is maybe it keeps people from getting too close? And by people, I mostly mean men. Hmmmm I may need to dig further.
I will explore that and take your advise on finding the motivation. Good luck!0 -
I'm dealing with that right now. I'm on the cusp (and have been for quite some time, about two months) of a major weight loss milestone. I seem to sabotage myself at every turn because I see that milestone as success and I can't deal with success that I have to maintain. I have such a fear of failure that I don't want to succeed. I know what the problem is, I just don't know how to deal with it or to rewire my brain after 37 years of thinking this way. I make up my mind that I'm going for it, but freak out at the last minute. I guess that, in spite of how far I've come, I'm just not there quite yet.0

Mental block, yes. 100%. I know how to eat healthy. I know how to exercise. I also know I allow myself to dwell on negative feelings, and I have a tendency to quit pursuing my goals when it gets tough, or I run into an obstacle.
The good news is, you really can actively practice changing this. I know it sounds nuts, but doing positive self-affirmation really helps. (Stuart Smalley just popped into my head. Jeez). Also, doing something to change my environment helps when I feel negative towards myself. If at work, I'll take a 10 minute walk around the block to clear my head, and actively think about how proud I am of myself for working becoming healthier.
Ultimately, I'm working on changing the whole me....not just my size, but how to deal with all those internal buttons that get pushed that cause me to overeat and just sit on the couch. Maintenance, although a ways off, is scary to me, too. But I'm starting to feel more excited about it than scared. I see that as a step in the right direction!0
