Hello,
My husband and I are really trying to get this weight thing under control. We just brought a juicer over the weekend, and have made our first official "Juice" this morning. I am really excited, but am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to really see results? Do I eat with my juice? or do I wait until my next meal? This morning I have 20 oz of water with after my juice, and am thinking about a bowl of special K with almond milk in a few.. lol.. all suggestions welcomed!

I know that if you make apple juice it's a good idea to add a bit of water and to drink it with a straw because some of the juices can erode the tooth enamel (maybe I'm wrong but this is what I remember being told). If you are making a juice with carrots and apple and celery ect ect then you'd not want to eat a meal next to that since it's kind of a liquid meal anyway. I love making juices! I also add ginger to mine. Have fun with yours!!0

Thanks! I made this one with Apple, Raspberries and Lemon.. I did use a straw.. I'm shooting for a green juice for lunch.. bracing myself! lol0

You lose weight by eating fewer calories than you expend.
Juice is food.0 -
I usually through whatever I have on hand in my juicer.. be it apple, carrots, spinach, even tomato!
happy juicing!0 -
Buying a juicer was the best investment I've ever made.
There's a ton of juicing information on Joe Cross's website, Reboot with Joe
But here's what I've been doing - I juice mostly vegetables and only a little fruit to sweeten it up. If you aren't sure how you'd like vegetable juice start with simple combinations that you think would taste good together - carrots, apples and a little ginger is a great one to start with. As you get used to the taste start adding a little more vegetables - maybe one kale leaf or half a tomato. Gradually you will start liking the taste of the vegetable combinations and you can start decreasing the amount of fruit you put in the juicer - you want to try to get to 80 percent vegetable and 20 percent fruit.
Eating and juicing is fine - when I first started juicing I was just using it to supplement my meals because I wasn't getting enough vegetables in my diet. I lost 35 pounds in two months - the meals I was eating were clean - no refined sugars and very limited processed foods.
When the scale stalled out in June I did a 3 day juice fast - just water and juice for those 3 days, I lost 7 pounds and the scale started moving again.
Since doing the juice fast I have started juicing breakfast and lunch and eating a healthy snack in the afternoon and a healthy dinner with my son in the evening. I don't feel deprived at all and the scale has been steady at about 3 pounds loss a week. I've only been on MFP a couple of weeks, but since starting my weight loss journey back in March I am down about 55 pounds and feeling great.0 -
Thank you for all of the information! I did get the Breville Juicer and got the Joe Cross DVD for free, I haven't watched it yet.. I think it's going to change the way I look at food..lol..
I'm going to try all veggie combo this afternoon. I have to try and figure out what to do with these beets that I brought. It's three big fatties with long stems? Do I dump it all in?0 -
Why do you hate fiber?0

I didn't say I hated fiber?0

I didn't say I hated fiber?
Juicing = No Fiber
Blending = Fiber0 -
I got you. I still plan to have fiber in my diet. I will still eat whole foods and use my flax seed and all..0

but...juice?0 -
I personally would eat a ribeye, crab cake and mashed potatoes with my juice. Especially if the juice had broccoli in it.0

OP, please juice responsibly
Don't want to end up in juicers anonymous0 -
Beets can be very strong, personally I use just half a beet per juice.
The beet greens are edible, you can add those to juice as well - just be sure to wash them first.
Also the beet root should be peeled before you add it, otherwise your juice might taste a bit too earthy (my son thinks they taste like dirt).
Watch Joe Cross's video, it will give you lots of information.0 -
I would suggest adding protein to your juices too, it's one of the most important macro's. Additionally, even with juicing, make sure you are getting enough calories. Juicing should be a supplement not a replacement for food.0

I really appreciate all of this information! I have also read that I can juice 2-3 times a day and still have meals. I don't want to starve myself, just trying a more practical way (for me) to get in the fruits and veggies I need. Like I said, it's only day 1, so I'm all over the place. I found a booklet that had 25 easy juice recipes and have picked 2 from there today. I didn't use the beets yet (scared) but did use pineapple, cilantro, ginger and cucumber.. that was different.. lol0

What kind of proteins? Like a powder from GNC? Or something natural? (I really appreciate the help!)0

I juice mainly vegetables, drinking the juice is just like eating the fruit and vegetable you've juiced, so I do mainly carrot, spinach, celery...along those lines, then add a lime and and apple to taste. Calories from fruit make a juice very high in calories very quick, but you can have a huge glass of carrot with an orange for much fewer. Carrot is my absolute favourite, so sweet, but I always add something tart to balance it, like a small orange, or an apple and lemon.
I always use a straw too, to protect my teeth. Juicing is wonderful, try adding spinach to anything, it is so good for you and barely changes the taste0 -
Hi!!!!
I don't juice, but I have been Nutri-Blasting for almost 2 months now and I love it!!!!! I drink one for breakfast!!!! I used 50% (about 2 cups) of leefy greens such as Spring Mix, Kale, Collard Greens, and spinach.....50% fruits....add water....top it off with about 1/4 cup of raw nuts/seeds for the protein and fat....blend it for a few seconds and I have a meal!!!!! I am pretty full in the morning, and it takes me some time to drink it....another benefit I have found is that my immune system is stronger!! My son got sick a couple of weeks ago....and whereas I usually get sick right after him....I didn't!!!! So this is something I plan on doing for the rest of my life!!!! Not to mention, I get a serving of veggies and my daily servings of fruit out the way!!! Not to mention a good source of fiber and other things!!!!0 -
Never heard about having to drink from a straw!!! I love my teeth!!!! Maybe I should consider this new info0

Pick a protein powder that you like and can afford. They are all pretty much the same. I like sixstar, body fortress, EAS, muscle milk, designer whey and GNC ON. I pick the one on sale.
BTW, with only 20 lbs to lose, set your account to 1 lb per week and if you exercise, eat back at least 50% of them.0
