Good Morning all!
I have a question for you today. This morning I can hardly move I hurt so bad. I expected some achiness from the ellipitical and yard work I've done. But that is complicated by my arthritis and the weather front coming in today. So to the question....
Do any of you have arthritis and how does it affect your exercising? I use Tylenol Arthritis and it helps some but I'm reluctant to excercise when I hurt.
I think I'm going to have to start the elliptical every other day and build up slowly.
Any suggestions?

Good morning friends,
Sorry you hurt so bad-that's a bummer. I have some kind of pain in my shoulder-don't know if it's arthritis or what. Going to the doctor for a follow up. The doc gave me a prescription for 600 mg motrin but I didn't want to take that high of dose. Figured it would tear my stomach up. Had a deep massage instead and taking over the counter motrin and it feels better. I haven't tried an elliptical machine but I've heard they are killers. Maybe every other day is the right way and build up. My main way of exercising is walking and I've built up to 3 miles a day (in an hour). I try to swim some when the weather permits-usually storming in the evening.
I'm working on getting enough sleep and I'm doing better at that. The scale still isn't moving but I have faith that one day I'll get on it and it will go down 2 or 3 pounds. I'm also going to have my doc check out my thyroid again. On medication for that and maybe it needs to be upped.
Have a great day!0 -
I have no clue what could help you out. But great job on keeping busy moving!!! YEY YOU!

Have you ever tried taking fish oil? I've had two major surgeries on my knees when I was 15. I now have severe arthritis in both knees I see a Doctor for natural medicine for all my stuff and she put me on a REALLY high dose of fish oil. It really really helps. I know people are skeptical of using natural medicine, but it is worth a try!! Let me know if you are interested and I can tell you how much to take!!
Good luck!!0 -

My friend has bad arthritis and she is even on the shots to help it, the Dr's actually prescribed certain exercises FOR it and told her to do a lot of walking/stretching, etc to build muscle to help with the pain.
Personally, I have a bad back since having my kids and if I skip using my elliptical a day or two, my back hurts a lot- but if I keep at it, it really helps. =o)))0 -
Sorry to hear about the arthritis, I can tell you that in 2003 I started getting arthritis, especially in the hands and feeling it in the knees. I went to a strict no sugar diet using Splenda instead to lose some weight. The weight went away but a nice side effect was the arthritis pain did too. There is research that supports this out there and I whole heartedly agree with the fish oil recommendations. Again, the research backs it up. That comes in ultra pure expensive options or the Walmart kind which I take, I personally take about 6000mg per day. Expect some additional good side effects with that too.
I would also recommend isometric type activities where the joints remain stationary to start and then transition into some aerobic. Either way, good job for even trying even with the pain.0 -
Thanks for all the good suggestions.
I am currently taking fish oil and glucosamine/chondrotin 2x day and I know they help. Part of my problem is resistance to taking any more meds than I have to. I take meds for thyroid, hypertension and allergies. I know I feel better and am more active when I take ibuprofen or Tylenol regularly. I guess I have to admit I do need them also and take them regularly to keep moving until some of the weight comes off, then reevaluate.
I also realize the refined flour and sugars (white death) impact me. I seem to be able to get away with 1-2 squares of dark chocolate without problem but more than that and I bloat and ache.
I took the Tylenol this a.m. and it's good for 12 hrs so I'm doing better, now if that danged storm would just hurry up and get here.
Thanks again for the suggestions.
