Taking Phentermine...how long do the side effects last

I have recently added Phentermine to my dieting and exercise plan due to my slow metabolism. I haven't had any major side effects but the one that I do have is driving me insane. I'm having insomnia in a bad way. I'll go to bed around 1030-1200 and wake up at 230-400 and be completely unable to go back to sleep. I have been on anti-anxiety and sleep meds for years already so taking those to help is redundant. For those of you who have taken it with this same problem, how long did it last for you and do you think reducing my dosage would help? The thought of stopping phen right now is very discouraging because i have been dieting and exercising for so long without good results but sleep is how I distress from life and being unable to is just as upsetting.

I've taken it and had problems going to sleep but not staying a sleep. You body will adjust to it and you will feel normal. For me it took a few weeks. I'm sure you will get negative comments for using it, but it helped me a lot. I only used it for 3 months and still going strong without it feel free to MSG me if you need more info0

Usually starts to decrease during the second week as you get used to it. You won't get a rush of energy from it either.
Once the "rush" starts to fade away, you will be able to sleep better.
I am on my 3rd round (three months on, 1 month off) and I have zero side effects now.0 -

I REALLY hope you are discussing this with your prescribing physician and not a bunch of yahoos on the internet. Anti-anxiety and sleep meds mixed with phentermine is not something you should be trying to figure out on your own.2

If you are taking anti-anxiety and sleep meds with the phentermine, you're making a crazy mix. You need to talk with your doc. I'm not sure the waking issue is from the phen. You know what it is, right? An amphetamine, prescription speed pretty much. I took it for 6 months. Lost about 50 pounds. And never had sleep issues. Taking half a pill probably won't affect it's effectiveness if you want to try to cut it to see if your sleep becomes more normal.1 -
Cutting a pill in half is a no no. It's slow release mechanism will be damaged and all meds will release at once. It can cause an overdose. Talk to your doctor and don't take advice on line . Phentermine can harm you if not taken as prescribed.0

Anxiety, trouble going to sleep at night, inability to lose weight..............all point to metabolic problems. Why not fix the problem instead of using bandaids. If you attack the root cause, you will feel so much better, be more healthy, and get better results. Find a good dr that knows how to diagnose and treat metabolic conditions. Any specific questions, shoot me a message.0 -
Today is my 3rd day and i am having dry mouth and in mid afternoon my anxiety flares up alot and a few other ones how much longer eo i have to wait for all the side affects to go away i am starting a new job this week coming up and i dont want it to affect my job0

I think the unseen side effects should be enough to make you want to throw them out. Deal with your food issues, deal with the sleep issues, without medication if you can...because, do you truly want to have to use pills forever? Good luck to you, with whatever you choose..0

STOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0

Nobody can tell you how long your side effects will last, because nobody has your body compilation. If you have concerns then talk it over with your doctor. When I was on it I was under a doctor's care and had to stop after the second month because my blood pressure shot up.1

Agreed! Phentermine kind of speeds you up and if you already have anxiety, that's a risky combo. Is it the same doctor prescribeing both meds or are you getting the anti anxiety meds from a psychiatrist and the other meds from a general care practitioner? If it's the latter, does the general care practitioner know about he anxiety?

I had that same problem! I loved the first month. Lost 30 lbs in 30 days. I had side effects... Dry mouth, my hands would literally turn red, hair loss... Nothing that made me want to stop... The 2nd month the real trouble started... Anxiety, Blood Pressure, vision troubles... It took me years to get over the side effects... No joke! Sadly, I loved the loss so much, I have always wished I could do it again. Luckily, I can't afford it, so I won't slowly (or possibly quickly) kill myself. It's just so hard for me to do this without some kind of aid. I gained those 30 lbs back and have just been on a rollercoaster with my weight all over again.0 -

I took phentermine for 2 weeks, I stopped mainly because i hardly slept at all during that time, I was a zombie! It also made me really depressed and anxious, two things I never experienced before or since stopping it. All in all it was a horrible experience.0

Why are you taking this garbage? If you are trying to lose weight...calories in vs calories out.
This stuff is the devil. I took it about 20 years ago.
Losing weight is as simple as calories in vs calories out! Period! Stop taking this crap!0 -
I understand feeling like you need to take this to lose weight. I truly do. I've been there, done that. Trust me when I say, it's not worth it. I lost 100lbs taking phentermine. But it wasn't just fat I lost. I lost muscle too. And even though I had great intentions of keeping it off, guess what? When I quit taking it, the weight came back. So now I have 100lbs of pure FAT instead of a mix of fat and muscle. Which means, for the first time in my life, I have icky cellulite. I mean the visible kind....which I never had before. My legs used to be smooth...big, but smooth. Now, they are dimply. Joy.
I too thought I couldn't do this without the use of meds. I thought I needed the jump start. I didn't think I could do it on my own. But guess what??? You can. I'm doing it. Slowly, but I'm doing it. 2lbs a week is my loss rate with no meds. Sure, it will take longer. But you know what? This is how I'm going to make permanent life changes with no pills to stop when I get done.....
It's a real ego boost to know that I had the power within me this entire time. You can take control of your life. Don't let the meds control you. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!3
