In this case... VALEN-TINE is the right way.... I have never come across a VALENTINE that is pronounced VALENTEEN.... I've had the name for 10 years and this still freaking CRAWLS my skin....

I think when it's the holiday, it's clear-cut. When it's a name, I think people probably get creative. Valentino, Valen-teen, etc.

In the context of Valentines day, it's of course pronounced Val-en-tyne, however when it's a last name I've seen it be Val-en-teen more than once.

I've only seen it pronounced Valenteen when used as a last name for someone of either Spanish or Latin American descent.

I'm too busy being hung up on what the heck "promounce" means.... LOL Just kiddin'

And I'm from Southern California. I'd have pronounced it "Balenteen".

Edited to correct my own typo. Too funny! LOL

My daughter's name is Severine. . .and folks always pronounce the "ine" as 'een' not 'in' as I intended. She's gotten used to it though. Only took her 13 years to adjust. LOL

Depends. If I'm talking about the day named after the saint who married people jailed for religious purposes then "Val-en-tyne."

If I'm talking about a Frenchman then "Val-en-teen."
