I have my calories set at 1200, however at the end of the day I am always below 1200. I do not feel hungry at all. Should I eat to be close to 1200 or stop as low as possible? Right now I have 400+ calories left for the day.
PS. This is not including anything that I burn off with exercise I am NOT eating those calories back .. that's useless!

Eating your exercise calories back is not useless. 1200 is already a huge deficit. If you eat that, then burn 300 calories, that puts you at 900. It's not enough. The whole reason that MFP adds in exercise calories is because they already have you at a deficit, if you exercise, you need more.
Anyway, the point is not to eat below the number they give you. The point is to eat as close to the number they give you as possible, plus exercise calories.0 -
So you are eating around 800 calories a day?? Yeah that is not sustainable, I would suggest eating atleast 1200 calories and if it was me I would be eating back the exercise calories... Eating back your exercise calories is far from useless if you are using the MFP approach, I use this method and eat back my calories and uselessly lost 300+ lbs. Best of Luck.....0

If you're going to go by the MFP system you need to eat your calories back, and you need to hit that 1200 goal or be within a couple hundred either side. Your weight loss can stall from lack of calories, and your metabolism will suffer. Personally I go by TDEE, and I think it works better for me.

My doc said never go below 1200 NET calories. Which means if you eat 1200, but burn three hundred, you need to eat another three hundred.
Ensure Clear has about 180 calories in it and doesn't taste too horrible if you need calories at the end of the day. The regular Ensure has more than 300.
I'm not suggesting this is the best way to consume your calories, but it works in a pinch.0 -
This might be something to talk to your doctor about. It depends on your hight and some other factors. Sometimes if you eat to little your body will not want to shed any weight and you might get frustrated. But this all depends because everyone is different.0

You're setting yourself up for a big FAIL. It took me years to figure out that doing the same thing you are doing just plain doesn't lead to long term success. I started eating more and suddenly I was down 40 pounds. I've maintained for over a year.
You need to NET 1,200. Eat back those exercise calories. It does make sense.0 -
I have been trying to eat close to 1200 ... thanks for all the responses! I just wanted to double check. I seen a weight loss doctor a few years ago who told me NOT to eat over 1200 a day which has been confusing!0

Is their anyway I can delete this? People are such jerks when I just had a simple question. I'm not a idiot.0

Of course you're not. So ignore people who say things that make you feel like you are. Just pay attention to the comments that make sense to you. That's how I did it when I was new.
But I don't know how to delete other peoples icky comments.0 -

It's not being a jerk to tell you not to starve yourself. YOU asked for advice. People gave it, just because you don't like that people told you to eat and you'd rather not doesn't make people jerks. Feel free to starve yourself or whatever else you want to do, just don't ask for advice and then get mad when you don't like the suggestions given.0 -
I am not starving myself I just asked if it was better for me to eat up to 1200 even if I was not hungry .. I said I was eating close to 1200 .. All I wanted was a little guidance not attitudes .. so much for support and motivation.0

The attacking comments have been taken care of.
BTW, you can eat higher calorie foods; nuts, adding cheese to things, cooking foods in EVOO, having a protein shake or high calorie protein bar, or going to town on a peanut butter jar. Also, you can feel free to drink some calories if you need to. In the end, getting enough calories is more important than anything else. You need to fuel your body so you don't end up losing a lot of muscle and have an adapted metabolic rate (which can happen over extended periods of suppression).0 -
My calorie intake is also set at 1200 and I have the same issue most days. I have been back on this site for about a month now and have lost 7 pounds. I exercise hard and do not eat those calories back. I do believe it is very important to stay close to the 1200 if not a few calories above it. (Meaning between 1200-1300 calories.) This will keep your body from going into starvation mode. If your not lactose intolerant try a glass of milk and add small things from there. I try to add things some times that are healthy and some times I add things as a treat. Fiber One has 90 calories packs of brownies. But my favorite find is Philadelphia Snack Delights Cream Cheese. I toast Sara Lee 45 calorie bread and put the cream cheese spread on it. It satisfies my sweet tooth at about 160 - 190 calories. I hope this helps.0
