This, but I can't imagine wanting a high sodium meal...I try to avoid sodium and still go over daily

Is english your first language? you might be confusing the words "high and good," sometimes they can mean the same thing. a recipe with "good" sodium content, generally means low-sodium to most people. if you do a google search for "low sodium recipes for" + the dish you want to cook, you will find something.

May I ask why you would look for a recipe high in sodium? A little bit of salt is needed for a healthy diet but.... why.....

Just add salt or club house spices to any recipe and your gonna be loaded with sodium

People with hypotension need a good amount of salt, more than recommended. Salt is what pushes the water into the cells, leading to sometimes water retention or bloating when you eat too much. People with hypotension need the salt or the water doesn't go into the cell as easily, I believe.

    Hello :)

If you mean meals that contain a lot sodium, I'm guessing its because your not hitting your daily 'target' of enough?
I would assume that everyone's is set to 2500? same as mine (which I rarely hit).
I really don't like salt so never add it to my meals but I find that I consume most when I eat stir fry and use soy sauce. Obviously the stir fry is low calorie cause its pretty much all veg (its more if you ad meat/meat substitutes, but veg is the main ingredient) but the soy sauce contains a lot of sodium. I find one days I eat this it Bumps up my sodium in take by quite a lot :)

    Hope that helps!

    Loucey :)

I don't know about the hypotension part, but when I had blood work done my salt content was a little below the recommended level. My doctor wants me on at least 2500 mgs. of sodium. Unless I eat a lot of processed foods, I have a hard time getting that high. And yes, my doctor also explained that sodium helps to attract water to the cells, which cushions the cells. He said that a healthy body is perfectly capable of processing sodium. When he told me all this, I was eating a super low sodium diet, thinking that salt was bad. I am to be retested in October.

    Hi Loucey,

Yes you got it right :)

I am struggling to meet that number 2500 but unfortunately not able to meet that target :(

So was just wondering what should I eat to hit "2500" for sodium.

Soy sauce, salted nuts, processed foods all have a lot of sodium in them. If its not recommended by a doctor to have a certain amount of sodium I would not worry too much about not hitting the target. Carbs, sugar, and fat are the ones I watch the most.
  • Do you have Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome?
I am on a high salt diet when i get flare ups and my favorite high salt foods are V8, Popcorn, Deli meat, pickles, salted nuts, and sauted kale with garlic and salt.

    Pujac,

I so know where you are coming from. I am in the same boat. I posted a similar thread a couple weeks ago....

    http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1051266-any-ideas-how-to-even-out-a-high-sodium-diet

I got some really good ideas from folks.

The high sodium concept just floors some people, but there are those of us out there that need it. Good luck, and if you need anything let me know. (The way I explain it is, my sodium drops, my blood pressure drops, I drop - in that order)

pick your favourite processed food? I've used soup and salted crackers, dinner take-out, some cereals have more then others...for a few.
