Old Habits Die Hard

Good Morning,
Just before my first workout today, and after a 1Lb weight gain, my thoughts turn to old habits. Here it is, almost 11am in NYC, and I just ate an apple and a tablespoon of peanut butter for breakfast. Thing is, I have been up since 8am!
As someone with hypothyroidism, I know that the sooner in the day that I start my metabolism - the better. I should have had this breakfast two hours ago. Instead, I have been sipping on one cup of coffee, and then another and only now have I had my breakfast.
I don't usually have an appetite in the morning and its very easy to wait it out until lunchtime. It is a stupid habit that started when I was younger, a sort of diet management tactic I devised for myself. Years later I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and can't help but think I did it to myself due to my stupid idea of not eating breakfast.
And all the years since, it's still a struggle to eat breakfast when I should - and I should - because then I wouldn't be so famished and foolishly eat whatever at lunch time.
Is anyone else having a hard time with old habits?
Thanks,
bmq98

i can easily be up for 2 hours before eating. i have a new rule for myself...no coffee till AFTER i eat a healthy breakfast. it doesn't have to be a big breakfast...but healthy.0

I have the same problem. I tend to take care of everyone else then by 10 I'm wondering why I'm so hungry. Oh yah, I didn't eat breakfast. I've never been a breakfast kind of person anyway. So yes I know how you feel. You just need to make eating first thing a priority.0

Old habbits are like old cow paths. It just so much eaiser to walk down that old path than a new one. But walk down that new path enough times, and before you know it, the new path becomes an old path.0

old habits are hard to kick but you're right, you should eat breakfast, BUT! i can understand not feeling like it......how about making yourself an "early morning snack" (maybe even the night before) so you dont have a meal (because it sounds like you arent hungry until about 11, so no need to eat alot when you first wake up) but you do have SOME food in you to get that metabolism kicking! then when you're ready for a meal around 11, go ahead and have one. breakfast is important (no matter how much my family thinks i'm crazy about saying that all the time) and you should be eating something. find something small to eat with your coffee and make this a new habit! the best way to break and old habit is to replace it with a new one!
good luck and i hope this helps! :flowerforyou:0 -
I have hypothyroidism as well. It makes it difficult to lose weight at times. I've found for breakfast I make myself a protein drink every morning, That way I don't have to eat if I don't want to, but my metabolism kicks in. I use a scoop of Body fortress protein powder as it has a high protein level and blend it with my coffee and creamer (skim milk if I want to make it healthier). It ends up being about 250-260 calories and that is enough to hold me until lunch.0

I always struggle with old habits. At least you're aware of it and trying to change! Maybe try to stop eating a little earlier in the evening to see if you get hungrier earlier the next morning? Wish I could help more - I wake up starving...0

You may try doing a protien (or another low cal type) shake in the morning. It may be easier to stomach than actual food. It usually takes me atleast 2 hours before I get hungry too.0
