Am I normal?

Hi, I'm 19, 5 feet 3 inches and weigh a 142 pounds. I suffer from hypothyroidism so it's always been hard for me to lose weight. I've started and quit four times now. I'm planning on starting again soon. I'm aiming for a healthy weight of 125 pounds.
Recently, I found that I due to thyroid and insulin resistance, I am suffering from a type of hyperpigmentation called acanthosis nigricans. This has been really hard on me and I'm hoping to lose these 17 pounds asap. I feel like I have no self confidence or esteem left and I often end up feeling horribly ugly and disgusting.
Is this normal or am I over-reacting?

Usually people who say they have hypothyroidism, from my experience, don't actually have it. Not saying that is true for you - but if you want to lose weight, it is not impossible, far from it.
You're also probably over reacting, us humans have a tendency to do that..0 -
Unfortunately, I didn't realize I had hypothyroidism till like a couple of years ago! I got tested and my results was 23 (waaay off the chart as the normal was apparently under 5). So yes, that sucked. I've tried to get in under control though -- I'm averaging 5.5 for the last four months now and I hope that I can bring it further down!0

What is 'normal' to anyone? There is no 'normal' in life.
If it's something you don't like about yourself, and if you don't like the way it makes you feel (which apparently makes you question if it's normal) then you have the power to change it.0 -

For a person with Hypothroid it can feel nearly impossible, and it can be very difficult, especially if you have a thyroid that jumps around like 2 year old on sugar that you just said no to.
OP, I think its pretty normal to feel the way you do if you are unhappy. If you haven't already join the thyroid group in the groups section, it has really helped me (even though I mostly lurk). Remember though, just losing weight is not going to fix you, you may have to work on your mental view of yourself to not dislike what you see.
good luck!0 -
Thank you, I haven't joined the thyroid group yet; but I will. It'll be nice to get some insight about how people who suffer from it can reduce weight. Efficiently.0

I do have hypothyroidism, and have been on medicine for it for 4 years. In that 4 years I managed to lose 126lbs!0
