    Multiply 3.267 x your weight and that is how many calories burned in an hour. I then divide by 3 since the warm up and cool down are considered exercise but not intense. I get only 185 calories burned but if I use circuit on here its over 200!

    3.267 x weight of 174 = 586.458/3=189.486
    Why don't you just multiply your weight by 1.089 (3.267/3 = 1.089). It would give you the same thing.

    I'm 191lbs and I burnt an average of 280 - 300 on level one when I first tried it and now (I'm more fit) I burn an average of 200 - 240 doing it. I have the Polar FT4 HRM. Best thing I've ever bought.

    I think it's really more of an estimate. Your calories burned will vary from day to day as you lose weight, become more fit, or exert less or more energy. The only way to know how much you're REALLY burning every day (as closely as possible, that is) is to get a heart rate monitor. I got mine at Wal-Mart for $20--you wear it like a watch and it's recommended that you check it every time you change intensity (you just put your fingers on the monitors and wait a second or too. That said, if you're serious about your lifestyle and you absolutely must know how many calories you're burning, splurge on a really good monitor. I question the validity of my total calories burned, as it's been reporting my heart rate in the 220s and 230s from the middle to the end of my higher cardio workouts (and even after my cool-down, stretch sometimes). I don't eat back my exercise calories unless I'm super hungry, so it doesn't make that big a deal to me, but what works for me might not work for you.

    I am 33yo, 5'2", 162 pounds - I burn about 120 calories (I have a bodymedia fit). I went outside to jog a little this morning instead of doing 30ds and buned 180 calories... not sure I'm going to continue with 30ds...

    I''ve been using MFP's "calisthenics, vigorous" and also wearing an HRM. The MFP estimate is above my HRM--I've been averaging about 160 cals for 30DS level 1.

    btw, I am 37yoF, 5'4", 149 lbs.

    you know, I've had a problem with the monitors too. they say you shouldnt go over 178 but walking on a tread mill that takes my measurments says Im at 170 long before I feel tired or sweaty. I never understand that...How can I be at my full potential and not even feel winded?
  • Get a heart rate monitor. Using your heart rate is the best way to judge how many calories you are really burning.

    I used circuit training general too - for me 27mins of that was worth 208 cals but my HRM says I burn around 250-270 I'd definitely rather it was under :o) so was happy with the MFP estimate anyway.

    I googled it and got 167 for a person weighing 150. Now I use my HRM and get about 180-185. Hope this helps!

    I am currently on level 2 of the 30 day shred. Level 1 I burned between 230 and 266, level 2 has been between 240-265. That being said each person's results will be different, and how hard you push yourself plays a factor as well. I know you hear it a lot but invest in a HRM!! Not only will it tell you what you are burning so you can make sure you are not over/under eating, but it will help you push yourself while working out. When I see my HR is only 140 I know I am being a baby, and push until it's about 176. Good luck!

    I'm a male 5'7 and weigh 166pds and my new HRM that I just got said 295 calories burned for 30minutes.. Think this is accurate?

    I found this formula on the Jillian Michaels site, it might help.

    30 day shred calorie burn - 3.267 calories burnt per pound every hour. Multiply by weight to get how many calories per hour you would burn and divide by 3 to get each 20 minute work out

    A HRM is also a good tool.

    120 for your size seems really low unless you're VERY fit, or aren't really pushing yourself hard. I can't imagine only burning 120 calories on ANY level of 30DS, to be quite honest. I'm 5'5" and was right around your weight (I was 158.3) when I started doing 30DS over a year ago. I burned between 175 (once, which was the lowest) and 270 calories per workout.

    I would invest in a HRM! But Before I got mine, I did 1.11 X my weight for 30DS. It was pretty accurate!

    My calculations are telling me I burned 198 in the 30 minutes...I did the calculations as stated by the person who divided by 3.

    I'm investing in a Polar as soon as I can do it!

    Right now it's hop in the shower time because I'm a ridiculous ball of sweating goo...lol!

    Edited to add I'm 5'2.75" and 181.6lbs at age 36!

    MFP estimates 156cals, lbs x 3.267 calc = 137cals.

    Must burn more than 137 surely!

    Am 5ft2, 126lbs & 33yrs.

    Will keep logging as 156, some I know with similar BMI use a HRM and get over 230!

    So if I did this right, if I weigh 186 and I did 30 minutes. would that equal out to 303 calories?

    Hm, I just did 30 day shred (this is my third day of doing it). My HRM says I only burned 56 calories?!? Can this be right? I've checked the settings on my HRM, and it all seems to be working....but only 56 calories?!? I'm 5'7" and 145 pounds. I'm fairly active - I walk my dog 3 miles a day and do dance cardio too.
