I enjoy reading his blog when I get the time, he's a member on here that's not around too much, so you may not be as familiar with him. He's more a part of the blog world.:drinker:
So I thought I'd post his blog link for those of you that have not had a chance to take a look at his journey. His journey was done without weight loss surgery and you'll be simply amazed by his transformation from Day 1 to current photos.
This particular post of his is about his choice not to have WLS so it might interest some, we all have choices, we all make our own. We do what we feel will be best for us and live with that.
I chose not to go the WLS route, for me it was about doing it all on my own. I succeeded and I am so very proud of myself. Some of you went the other route and have had success in that, continue to work hard and have every right to be proud, I just knew it wasn't for me.
I think we make our decisions for what we need to do for us. For myself I needed to do it alone and prove to myself that I could, I knew that I could and any less than that I would have felt like I failed. That is simply me though. :flowerforyou:
I just wanted to add that this is merely a post sharing a bloggers story of success not a pro vs. con on WLS. If it came across any other way, my apologies, that was not my intention at all. I just like to see success stories of ppl that needed to drop several hundered lbs and did it WITHOUT WLS. I think some think that is the only way, it's not happened to me directly but several friends on here have shared they were actually ask if they had the surgery done after losing a large amount of weight. We DO know that losing a large amount of weight can be done with changing food habits and working out, right?
it can come in many forms
Assuming is never a good thing, weight loss can be caused by any number of things, Cancer, other illness's, a personal goal to lose weight, WLS. If someone came up to me and ask me that question and I hadn't been working on losing weight, I think it would be very ackward and inappropriate. I shared a very brief story the other day on a thread where ppl were asking why noone ever mentions that they look lke they've lost weight.
We have a volunteer that works in our office area that has Stage 4 Cancer, she has not made it public to many. She's dropped down to under 100 lbs. The hardest thing for her she's shaed is when ppl come up and say HOW DID YOU DO IT? What diet, you've GOT to TELL ME! :ohwell:

It's very possible! I've lost 120 pounds so far, working on my last 76 (that's all that shows in my ticker currently). I honestly can't imagine having surgery, for me it wasn't an option. I am sure it works for some though.0

I LOVE to read and hear of stories of the large lbs. lost from non WLS folks, it's tough when so many simply ASSUME that because you're larger the first thing you run to is the WLS doc, many, many of us don't. We look in our closet, flip out a bit, clean out the cupboards, begin to preplan/prepare our own meals, and start moving our bodies. :drinker:
Some on MFP have shared they got sceduled for WLS but after losing upwards of 80 lbs. they called and cancelled and decided they WANTED to continue on their own as they'd gotten this far on their own, why quit now, they realized they could DO IT!. I love to hear those stories as well.
Cheers to everyone that's losing weight in a healthy manner and that is the example so many of us have needed to continue our journey.
Hugs

Congratulations to everyone who has done it without surgery. I have a friend on the list for surgery that has severe arthritis, and diableing nerve pain. I know that if she had started her weight loss journey earlier that she could have avoided the upcoming surgery. Maybe she could still do it now but not without years of intense pain. I feel both anticipation and dread for her.
Two other people that I know that have done the surgery, lost the weight, but both are busy putting it back on. They haven't changed the way they think. One is a sugar addict and the other thinks food is love. Both for herself and her sad dogs. I think weight loss surgery should require manditory long term counceling. It is even better if the councelling is given first in attempt to avoid the surgery all together. I don't know of any successful weight loss surgery storys. I am sure there are some or would the doctors be doing them?0 -
I was devastated when my gyno told me that "Girls like you only have one option, lap band surgery"... I know it can be done without surgery and I am out to prove her wrong!0

That's craziness. I see that you have PCOS; I do, too. And according to your ticker, I had more to lose than you did starting out! I guess I was lucky... NONE of my doctor's have ever said that to me! I had one try to put me on metformin when I was in high school and I didn't want to (still haven't taken it). All of my doctors have expressed concern about my weight, referred me to nutritionists and told me to try Weight Watchers, and recently a doctor told me that I really needed to work on it if I ever wanted children, but NONE have even mentioned or suggested surgery! I'm not sure why, really, but that was just the experience that I had. Long story short, you can ABSOLUTELY do this without surgery!!
To be honest, thinking about losing a lot of weight really is overwhelming, and sometimes, you just don't want to try. Times like that, surgery seems to be the easy way out, the better option. But personally, I can't handle anything medically related, let alone surgery, so I just decided to go for it and see what happened. Once you start losing the weight and realize that you CAN do it, there is no reason to even consider other options! It hasn't always been easy and I know it will get harder, but I've got enough confidence in myself at this point that I know I can handle it and lose the weight on my own!0 -
