Starting to Exercise- Getting Ankle Bruises

I am starting to exercise again, Crossfit kind of exercise so a mixture of everything along with running. I have large bruises on the inside of my ankle bones and I didn't hit them on anything. It hurts when I press on them or even the pounding on the ground when I try to run. I tried to Google it, see maybe what could be causing it but I didn't get a helpful answer. I have heard everything from the way to run, to my arches, etc... I have always bruised easy my life, just usually it's when I run into something :)

Ideas? Has anyone else experienced something like this?

There are Crossfit groups on MFP that might be able to answer that because no idea what you mean by mixture of everything along with running.

I've recently taken up running after being a bit lazy for a few months, and my ankles are very sore as well. Wouldn't call it bruising, but it definitely hurts to step down on them and the muscles are very sore. It's just because you've just started, take it easy and work your way in (don't over do it the first while!) and you'll be better eventually. Maybe try speed walking if they hurt too much to run on.

I have read that increased vitamin C (and the accompanying bioflavonoids) reduces bruising problems.

Thanks for the information. I just get so excited when I am starting a new workout that I go a little crazy! I'll try the Vitamin C too, I don't want to stop working out now that I just got off my lazy bum!

Well do you have flattened arches? When you stand with no shoes/socks, does it look like the picture on the left? http://i.imgur.com/ioPCd.jpg
Try jumping up & down and see if your feet cave in.

I'm actually going through the same thing with mine right now. Pretty sure they got injured when I moved up a level on the 30 Day Shred. Unfortunately, I have no solution yet. However, icing, heating, wrapping, and taking ibuprofen have helped somewhat.

Let me know if you come up with something better! This is a pretty painful injury since I walk stairs and hike a lot.

I believe anemics are prone to easy bruising. You might want to get your iron levels checked. Plus if you do happen to be anemic, and are put on iron supplements, it will increase your energy levels. Good luck :)
