Low mood

51 yr old for the past 3 months gained 6 pounds and suddenly feeling that nothing can help, feeling low most days. Maybe an empty nest syndrome but I need to shake off this spiralling down feeling. Any changes I can do ? Only genuine comments please.

Sorry you're feeling down.
Do you do any exercise? Regardless of what your weight goals are, exercise helps boost mood... And it's something to do.0 -
Get your blood tested for vitamin d and b12 levels. No harm in a general check-up too.0

You might need to see your doctor, my mom (also early 50s) went through this and it turned out she needed a hysterectomy. She has more energy than she's had in the past 15 years and has dropped 30lbs over the last six months. Sometimes there's more than one reason for weight gain and low morale. Don't let 6lbs get you down, keep on walking and trying!0

Look into meditation!0

I agree. When I feel low or even just tired, walking or riding my bike makes me feel happy and sometimes hyper! I love it!0

That's a good point--sudden changes in weight or mood/behavior could indicate a health problem. So you would want to rule that out before doing any dieting or exercise.0 -
Fresh air and sunshine can definitely do wonders for lifting the mood. Get out in the garden, take the dog for a walk, saunter down to the grocery store for a fresh fruit treat?
How about hobbies? Do you have any hobbies you enjoy, or any you've wanted to try?
Pamper yourself recently?0 -

I'm sorry. This is the second year in a row that both of my kids went to sleep away camp for over a month and I thought I would be so productive and free! Turns out I have no life! I have been thinking a lot about what I want my life to look like once they become independent. Maybe you should do the same? Join some groups or something. Keep your schedule full. :happy:0
