Hi my names Jess,
I've been briefly following MFP on my iphone app for a few weeks now and only discovered the MFP website today!
Although I know a fair bit about fitness and training in terms of exercising and losing weight, I dont know too much about the nutrition and dieting side of things, so any helpful tips will be muchly appreciated!
I had my calorie goal set to 1600 per day, but with the calories taken away from my exercise I havent even been able to reach 1300, so I set 1300 as my new goal. Is 1300 too low for a daily calorie intake when im training any where between 30 minutes to 2 hours at the gym 5-6 days a week??
please help me!!!!

I would definitely try and up your calories. Personally I train 6 days a week and eat around 2000 calories a day. I follow a paleolithic diet which means that I eat a lot of protein and the very few carbs I do get are from veg and fruit. Anyway, if exercising that much I would definitely try and get some more calories in. xxx0

Unless you eat less than 50% of your daily calorie needs for several days in a row you will not go into "Starvation Mode."
It's important to eat a balanced diet. Lean and Green with lots of fruits and vegetables. There is no daily requirement for refined sugar so get your sugar and carbs from fruits. Be careful not to eat too much protein as your body will just store it as fat.

It's working fab for me! I'm never hungry, my muscles and body recover from tough workouts very quickly and my fitness has improved no end - I would highly recommend it - especially if you do like fish and veg!
Every sunday night I have a spike meal which means I can eat whatever I like - although I do find I tend to still stick with healthy stuff!
You're welcome to look at my food diary xxx0 -
Hi Jess!
I had the same problem. I too exercise on a regular basis and had no idea how many calories I should take in. I spoke to one of the personal trainers at my gym, who did a calculation that figured for my gender, age, height and fitness level how many calories I should be eating a day. I'm allowed 1300 - 1400 a day which more or less breaks down to 334 calories at breakfast, lunch and dinner along with 3 snacks of 100 calories.
If you don't have a professional that you can speak to about nutrition let me know . . . I would be more than happy to take your information to Susan so that she can do the same calculation for you.
Good luck to you and welcome to My Fitness Pal online!
