When I turned 54 late last year, I weighed 225. I calculated my BMI and it said I was obese; started plugging in numbers and found to get back to healthy range I needed to lose about 55 pounds. I am not saying BMI is perfect (or even close to perfect) but it seemed like a good starting point for setting a goal. And I liked the idea of losing 55 pounds before I turned 55. I made it! My scale read 170.0! I am actually going to push a little lower so that spikes stay below. I did it by eating around 1200 most days with some spikes for special meals, holidays, celebrations or just because I felt like it. I just didn't let those get out of hand. I started running, first with C25K, running an actual 5k in April, and then just stepping it up as I went and I now usually run 5-10 miles about 3 times a week. I had a 30 day period from late May to late June where I logged 100 miles. I am considering doing a half marathon in October. I also started going to the gym and working with a trainer to get my upper body back in shape.
Anyway, I don't feel like I am done even though I have made goal; I captured the flag, but now I have to defend it...

Good job! I decided that I needed a change in my lifestyle too, but 30 years of Army running, a marathon and a total hip replaceement made the running problematic. I chose biking to replace the exercise, and am about to reach half my goal.
I like the defending the flag metaphor too!0 -
Congratulations! Well done!0
