i'm stuck

hi. I've already lost 12lbs and i'm very happy with actually losing weight for the first time in years however over the last few weeks I have been stuck at 16st 10lbs that would occasionally jump to 16st 12lbs only to revert back down to 16st 10lbs a few days later. I find myself being frustrated at my lack of weight loss considering the first 12lbs practically fell off me. I don't diet strict I just try and stay within my calories (although this last week has been hard as i've been dealing with a lot of stress to do with my grandad in hospital).

just wondering if anyone has any advice to get it going again or do I just have to wait it out until it starts again?

Stress on it's own can cause us to plateau when we are trying to loose weight. It sends our hormones in meltdown which can have a knock on effect. You don't mention exercise in your post. If you don't already do some sort of exercise you will have to start as diet alone isn't enough of keep the weight loss going. Even just going for a simple walk every day will help. Taking the stairs instead of the elevator at the hospital. Small things help with big changes. Good luck with your journey.

Looking at your diary for the past week you diary mentions no exercise and on some days you are eating over your target by 300-400, making your intake around 1700.

On really sedentary days I only burn about 1400 so if I was eating 1700 then I would be eating in excess of what I am burning. On exercise days I can eat 2000 calories and still be under what I've burned - so exercise is very key to how much you can eat and not put on or lose weight.

It may be that currently your intake is balancing with your output? But you don't really give enough information to be able to make further analysis.

If you are new to MFP then you may not realise that this is off topic and isn't something you do on the forum - 'hijacking' someone else's thread - if you want to start your own thread about something then feel free to do so.
  • So sorry. I could not figure out how to post my own.

I didn't checked your diary. Heres a few things you can check

    1) Are you consistant with your logging of food. Not going over and not going terribly under?

    2) are you sure you are logging properly? When I eat out a lot , I find my logging to be over or under by a lot because restaurants (specialy the mom and pop ones) are very unreliable with calories

    3) Often times if you've been on a diet for a while, going over for a week or 2 is ok (even encouraged by me). Anytime I get stuck for over 2 months, I go on maintenance for 2 weeks and the lbs start coming of. With the stress you have, I suggest taking the time off from "diet"

    4) And this is very important. You are NOT stuck if its only been a couple of weeks. You are stuck when you go for 2 months without shredding a lb.
