Why does this have to be so hard?!

This extra weight im carrying around is effecting my self esteem, my marriage, my health, and my quality of life and it's got to go!
BUT i just can't seem to get a handle on my eating and i used to love to workout but as of late it seems like such a chore to get up and get going. Some days i do so well with my eating in the early part of the day but then once im off work, i've worked out and it's about 7-8pm i get hungry again and usually i end up overeating and blowing my whole day. How do i stop doing this?!?!?

im 26 years old 5'4 and 196lbs i have a goal weight of 130 lbs (to put me in my "healthy weight range"). I like to eat, so eating 1200 calories a day is just not an option, i feel like im starving. I had some comprehensive metabolic testing done recently and the out come was that i burn about 2200 cals a day, this number is based off me me being sedentary.

So my plan based off of that information is to eat 1700-1900 calories a day...i work in a warehouse and am moving around a lot for a good part of my day. As for my workouts i plan to do a 30 minute circuit training workout 4 days a week along with walking my dogs for 30 minutes 7 days a week. So hopefully after all that is said and done i will be netting 1200-1500 a day which hopefully will put me at a 1-1.5lb loss a week. Does this sound good?

How did you or someone you know get over their urge to overeat?

I found my urge too eat excessively was tied largely to me eating low nutritionally dense foods. I focus on getting as much protein as I can without processed carbs and try to include sufficient quality fats. It took several weeks to get a routine to it but I find my hunger decreased as the quality of my food increased. As far as working out, I started out very very slowly and focused on doing it every single day. My volume of work was focused on me being able to avoid rest days so I could build solid lifestyle habits. Consistency wins for me every time.

Good luck...add me if you want support

I have a hard time too! I can be great all day but night time is the worst time for me. Eating lean protein helps keep me feeling full. Also, vary up your work out routine! If you get bored or if feels like a chore, do something completely different!

Drinking more water. I find when I am "hungry" I am normally bored or thirsty. That helped a lot. Also, keeping myself busy - reading more, finding a hobby, something.

When I add protein to my breakfast, I feel I am less hungry and don't crave for foods so much. When I feel like snacking, I go for a piece of fruit or some roasted unsalted peanuts. I tend to eat more when I skip exercise and hence I push myself to workout all the 7 days. Some days it is harder than other days to get motivated to go to gym but once I am there I do get inspired by watching others and do well. I have made life style changes and hence sticking to exercise routine and eating low carb diets is working well. Remember it is a life time commitment to eat healthy and be fit. Self control will come depending on how bad you want the results.

Try this: Copy/paste your original post into a text document, i.e., MS Word. In a different font, attend to each of your sentences as if you were a mom or a friend or a counselor, etc. How might you counsel someone with these same concerns? You'll get some great ideas from responses to your original post, so don't do your self-counseling until you've read the responses.

Best wishes and I hope you enjoy the exercise I'm recommending. I've done it and it's amazing how effective this can be.

Your plan sounds like a winner. As for fighting urges to overeat, I find that pre-logging my food for the day usually helps. This way I can make sure extra calories are leftover for the evening when my cravings hit most.

Sounds like a good plan. As for overeating in the evening, a couple of things that might help:

    - Prepare your food for dinner, serve it, and then, before you eat, put away everything that's not on your plan. Box up leftovers, put away bread/salad/whatever, so that when you finish your plate, you're not surrounded by the temptation to pick at stuff. Instead, you have to make a conscious decision to go get more.

    - Brush and floss your teeth after dinner. It reduces the temptation to eat more.

I have been drinking TONS of water, I'm talking 15-20 glasses a day and it makes me way less likely to over eat. I just can't fit the extra food! Also, if I have a super string craving, I'll go for a walk or hop on the treadmill and it goes away. I know that some people can have "just a bite" but I'm not quite there yet!

We're right at the same age, weight and height so maybe we can help each other out!
