Hi!
So, in a few weeks im starting a job as a live in nanny for two days a week and as I will be living a considerable distance away from the family im working for, I will be living with them for two nights a week.
I was just looking for some advice on how to best approach this and continue to keep track of my food, and calories, and continue to lose weight!
Not sure if I should be packing all my own food or not,
All advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

Why would being a nanny (I'm assuming with active children) make you gain weight?0

With new jobs, comes more food intake.

its just the change of lifestyle im concerned about really,
like, since I started losing, ive been in my own place and had complete control over everything that goes in my mouth, so the change of change and overnight stays that come with it are kind of daunting to me,
but, im not really sure of the best way to approach my new job to best maintain my weight loss,
was just hoping someone could advise me on what they would do in this situation,0 -

Explain to the family that if you're eating with them you like to control your portion size and caloric intake? I dunno?0 -

yeh. that's one way ive thought of doing it, I don't know if it would seem rude to pack my own meals and eat separately each night.0 -
Pack some healthy snacks so if you are tempted with something else, you have back up! Also, talk to whomever is doing the cooking there and see what types of food they prepare. You may find they cook healthy. If not, again, bring your own food. Its only for 2 days but I do understand how hard it is to stay on track in a new situation. Good luck!0

It would not hurt to ask them to have some chicken or salmon available for you to cook yourself or to accomodate you bringing it yourself- i think communication will solve a lots of your fears. I don't think it will be too rough on you if you just ask some questions to the family you will be working for0

Will you eat with the family? Or will you be expected to make dinner for the kids and eat with them?
I worked as an au pair years ago, when I was 21. I lived with the family all Summer, June until the end of August. I wasn't expected to prepare meals at all, apart from breakfast for the kids. It was in France, so the parents had a long lunch break and came home and we had a nice lunch and a siesta. I just ate with them, and didn't gain weight. It was hot though, and they ate healthily.
I'm sure if the family have kids they eat well, especially if they earn enough money to pay for a nanny.
I have 2 young kids myself now and they're incredibly active, so I really wouldn't worry too much.0 -

I think im going to be helping prepare lunch and breakfast but after that I wont be in charge of any meals so dinner is going to be up to them I assume I think the best approach will be to maybe offer to make my own meals, and bring them with me, as im also a vegetarian and don't want them to have to change their meal plans for me0 -
It sounds to me like you are worrying excessively about this. Do you think they feed their children buckets of gravy smothered in chocolate sauce for every meal? Yes, it would be rude to pack all your own food and eat separately from the family at every meal.
I agree, though, that taking along some healthy snacks is a great idea. And, as someone else mentioned, those kids should have you staying busy. I'm imagining trips to the park, and physical activities to keep you and your charges moving. Have fun!0 -
