No, it has no effect. But habits like that help certain people no not binge. Others skip 1-2 meals and splurge most of their calories on dinner. Its what works best for you to not be hungry.0

I think why its suggested that people do so is that it prevents the sugar drop caused by the time in between meals which can cause fatigue and over eating at meal times, In September I'm going to be doing 5 small meals a day to see if it works for me or not, but really it depends on yourself, your routine and how your body reacts0
