Protein Shake / Meal Replacement Shake Drinkers

I've tried my fair share of protein shakes, but it was primarily when I first became a vegetarian many years ago. I stopped drinking the shakes since I ran out of powders and just kind of got sick of them. I'm deciding whether I should get back into drinking a protein shake daily as my breakfast. My main questions are:
~Do protein shakes satiate you like actual food would? My biggest battle in this weight loss journey is feeling full after a meal.
~Does it matter whether it's a meal replacement shake brand like Shakeology or 310 Nutrition versus a regular protein powder brand like Optimum or Body Fortress etc.?
~Are protein shakes the exception to "never drink your calories?" Many say you can drink something and not feel full after versus if it was something you'd chew, that being why drinking your calories seems so wasteful when you're limiting your calorie intake.
I just thought I'd ask about these things to decide whether I should get back into protein meal shakes again; with protein powder and meal replacement powders being so expensive these days I'd hate to buy it and never use it. Sorry if someone already asked a question like this; I tried searching but MFP's search option really stinks.
Thanks!!

I use matrix anabolic shakes with milk twice a day, they make me full as hell. So personally I would say yes, they are good at satiety. I was personally feeling fuller on those than I was on slimfast shakes (I used to be a massive noob and actually drink that chit in my younger days).
Count your drinking calories as normal calories, a calorie is a calorie no matter what the form.
Get your 1-1.5g per pound of bodyweight in protein a day, dont do more than 30-40% of this is shakes in my personal opinion, but as you are a vegetarian in may be harder for you to do that.
It doesnt matter what type of shake you use, as long as it gives you your protein, hasnt got too much processed chit in it, you are lifting weights, and counting those calories.0 -
I have 2 shakes a day inbetween breakfast and lunch, and in between lunch and supper.
I don't find that they fill me up like food would, but they do keep me going until I reach my next meal.
I use Evox Lean Pro Diet Protein, which is 98 calories a shake, 21g of protein and 2g carbs, for me its well worth the money to get all that protein in and so little carbs0 -
They tie me over usually until I can actually get something to eat, but normally no they don't make me feel full0

I use a 98cal shake too for morning and afternoon snacks. They don't fill me up but stop me snacking til the next meal. On the odd occasion I have used them as a mealie placement I have used the with soya/almond milk, a banana and some natural peanut butter or something to bulk up the calories and make it more filling x0
