HELP!

Hi MFP world! I really need some motivation. What keeps you going? Long story short…on Jan 1st 2011 I decided I would make a change. I had no energy and ate such horrible foods. That year I lost a total of 63 pounds. I went from 263 to 200. I felt great; I stuck to a balanced diet, and exercised almost daily. Now it’s 2013 and I have gained back 35 pounds. I’m very upset with myself. I worked so damn hard to get rid of the weight only to have gained back almost half. It hurts emotionally and physically especially when I look at pictures. I just really need motivation. I try to eat right and exercise daily; I do well for a week and then fall back into old habits. I think I have a food addiction  (seriously) I’m beyond frustrated. I just need some words of encouragement. Or maybe what helped you with your struggles. Thanks

Take small steps that lead to a sustainable lifestyle change.
Eat enough calories to nourish your body, within a calorie deficit, while still treating yourself with the foods you love. Don't restrict yourself or you'll end up on a binge. Eat your favorites (pizza, cake, ice cream, hamburgers, whatever) but in moderation.
This has helped me ALOT. It helps me to not feel deprived.
Just do what you can and do it consistently.
  • Don't be too hard on yourself. Do the best you can to eat in moderation but make sure you eat something you really want about 1 day a week. Be careful though and don't eat all your calories back in one day. Learning to find new favorites can be hard but that is what we have to do to keep the weight off. I've done the yo yo weight loss and it really is frustrating! My husband and I both have one day a week where we eat what we want to. Birthday cake, hot dogs, pasta - whatever we decide we want. And we are both still consistently losing weight.

One thing you may want to try - if you know you are going to eat something that is high calorie try to do exercise that equals part or all of the calories you will be getting. There are several 'programs' out there that can help you burn large amounts of calories in a short period of time. And also, if you know you are going out for dinner eat very low calorie the rest of the day.

One other suggestion - spend any free you may have researching exercise itself. Find exercise options that you want to try. Whether it be a class of some kind, or a single exercise for a specific body part that may interest you. Try to focus as much time as you can on your goals and how to reach them. We have to live fitness. Good luck!!

You're here, you're aware and so that's half of the battle won.

You CAN do this again, and this time it'll be even better :flowerforyou:

    Hi Girlfriend
Don't beat yourself up for gaining half back. Look at the bright side - you lost another half! So just get right back where you left off and you will lose the other half in no time. I love this quote: "Life is What Happens To You While You're Busy Making Other Plans". So what life got in a way? It happens to everyone. We go on vacation - boom extra weight, we have stress at work - more weight. I don't think there are many people who can avoid this altogether. As long as you have a plan and you know what to do, you are already ahead of those who are still saying that they will start tomorrow! Great job starting over and reaching out to people. This site is great, with many people who are in the same boat, and who are happy to help. Good luck, my friend!
