Going on vacation/holiday

Options
So I'm going on holiday to America, California in about 2-3 weeks. I'm quite worried because America has lots of junk food and I really don't want to put on any weight whilst I'm there. Does anyone have any tips or ideas for me? I'm planning on going grocery shopping whilst I'm there and getting some food and picking the healthy options and restaurants. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for me?? Thanks :)

There is loads of healthy food choices anywhere in America and especially so in CA!! Lots of fresh vegetables and fruit as well as healthy restaurant options also!!

You can have a lot of fun and still eat healthily in California!! Have a wonderful time!

    Hiya
California will have lots of restaurants that sell lovely healthy food....(and good wine hmmmmm). Wish I was coming, can you fit me in your suitcase?

Seriously, you will be able to get lots of lovely fruit and veg in the supermarkets and when you eat out just ask for dressing on the side or split your food at the beginning of the meal onto two plates (portions can be massive) and ask for the rest to go into a take out box. Perfectly normal and acceptable. Most of all enjoy your holiday and try to do some exercise to counteract any overeating!

    Hope that helps!

Most restaurants, well chains at least will have websites and will provide the nutritional values on their foods so check before you go out. As for grocery stores, well they have everything so just read labels and stock up on snacks, fruit and veggies when you are on the go. Having kitchenette facilities also helps so you can cook otherwise a bar fridge is a bare minimum.

    Enjoy your holiday!!

Probably just about as much junk food here as you've got there!
Stay out of fast food restaurants and eat well otherwise. The variety of healthful, delicious food here in the New World is astounding!
It's the time of year when farmers markets are bursting at the seams with great produce, breads, dairy, grassfed beef and poultry, seafood and even scrumptious, nutritious freshly prepared goodness!
What do you think? The streets are paved with crap?
Man, this is America-we have everything your little heart desires-including but not limited to delicious crap with no nutritional value whatsoever.
Ever tried a deep-fried Oreo or deep-fried peanut butter and jelly sandwich?
Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus!

By the way how did you gain your excess poundage?
    Junk food or clean eating?
You can gain both ways, you know!

    I know what you mean.
    Tomorrow I leave for London.
I have determined to keep off all carbs, and sugar.

    That should do it.

    Share!

I didn't really gain weight during my week long holiday in Spain, mostly because I basically shared all plates with my sister (asked for a starter to share, main dish to share and dessert with two spoons), this way it allowed me to try a lot of type of foods and still not overeat...

US food portions are quite big (even healthy ones!) so just share them or take away half of it... It'll help I think.

Tips: Sun protection; Warm jumpers/cardies, for the climes change rapidly within a 6 to 12 to 24 hours window, from extreme heat to chilly frost-bite cold temperatures.
