How does that work when posting though? Don't you make more typos because of that ability?

As I make my living as an Editor, it's hard sometimes to let glaring errors go.

Usually I just roll my eyes and move on.

Everyone makes typos, and it's a forum, not a corporate newsletter.

A British academic, despite having no doubt benefited from his ability to read and write with proficiency, is merrily asserting that such skills are no longer required for kids these days. Sugata Mitra, a professor of educational technology at Newcastle University, argues that good spelling and grammar are "a bit unnecessary … they are skills that were very essential maybe 100 years ago but they are not right now." Mitra says that smartphone and computer technology that corrects our spelling for us has rendered such a skill obsolete, and as for grammar, well, who cares? Mitra suggests students' time would be better spent learning how to text even more awesomer! LOL!

I never correct them unless the original person is being a real jerk. Like, insulting people. This one guy called some girl a "dike", and I had to be a pompous *kitten* and point out that the word he was looking for was "*kitten*". Sometimes you just gotta put the smackdown on someone.

That was you? I read that thread and enjoyed your answer; it wasn't pompous at all, just pointing out the truth. High-Five! :drinker: [okay, maybe not a high-five with a beer stein]

Two nights ago I laid/lie/lay(?) in bed pondering starting a thread titled... "The English Majors' Thread".

It was to start out with the most epic prose delineating perfectly instructions on posting in such thread only using the most accurate grammar and punctuation. Then, as I envisioned this thing of beauty I saw it derailing into a disaster of infiniquotes proportions with arguments of syntax and pretentiously big words spinning into language ever more lofty with each reply.

As the thread devolved into it's last two posters who were the only two left who could discern the obscure rules and literary references slung as insults my dream died as slowly as the thread itself as I drifted off to sleep. The end. :frown:

ETA: See, I even had to edit that!

I was told by a 90y/o English Major, who wrote for newspapers most of her life, that People Lie they don't lay (or lain, laid). I thought that it is a very good pun and said so. I will never misuse lay, lie, lye when it comes to people again.

Oh, and slap my mouth, I used "irregardless" in a sentence today..for shame, for shame! :blushing:

its a pain in the *kitten*. Language is just so we can communicate with each other. As long as we are able to understand whats being said, i really dont know what the whole point is about!!! Whenever i now post anything, i relook a 100 times just so that my grammer is not "incorrect"(to the best of my ability anyway)
