    I have been doing this for years, but not for future disease cures. When I was growing up, my mom always made sure that I ate a rotating color scheme of fruits and vegitables, she said it was because different fruits and vegitables had different levels of necessary vitamins, minerals, and what not. IDK. My mom is very healthy for 56 years old, so I am going to follow her advice until a doctor tells me otherwise!

    What category is LSD in?

    I believe that covers the whole rainbow. Does it count if you're seeing it and not eating it?

  • I LOVE THIS! I always try to get the colors of the rainbow in but sometimes I have a hard time suceeding! However when i think about it, so far today I've eaten red, blue, orange, and soon green! Skittles had the right idea, just the wrong way! lol

    Phyto = plant.

    Phyto chemical = plant chemical. (which means essentially nothing)

    The colours are caused by pigments, which, when struck by photons, feed the electron transport chain of the plant to enter into the Calvin Cycle to start the process of turning H20 and CO2 into C6H12O6 (glucose). Pigments do not prevent cancer. What you might be thinking of are antioxidants which can help to reduce risk of cancer by providing oxygen to react with free radicals (lose H+) hanging around in your body, which will just as soon react with the chemicals that make up your muscles.

    Fruits are brightly coloured to attract heterotrophs in order to spread/germinate seeds.

    This is similar to saying, "My hair is brown, so it promotes muscle growth."

    OMG I'm crushing. You had me at Calvin Cycle.

    I choose my vegetables by colour... seriously, I like to see a good balance of colour on my plate! I like it when the colours compliment each other, I don't like having too much one-colour overlap.

    Pretty=delicious.

    Not sure if this is helping or further confusing the simple issue, but my daughter's pediatrician told us that kids will eat one food for days on end and only that one, i.e., this month it's garden peas for our little Pepper Ann. Last month it was avocados, and before that it was blueberries. In the end, they get what they need and move on. According to the doc, that's normal eating and adults would do the same thing if we weren't educated to eat a variety. Thought that was interesting.

    Yup; it bothers me when my plate is all one color, i.e., white potatoes or rice, chicken, and corn. I was taught that my plate should contain a variety of color.

    Interesting! I've always heard you should eat a variety of colors but never knew why.

    I don't shop intentionally for different colors, but in thinking about it it just tend to happen since I'm eating better now.
