Hi,
I started using this program again. It has been a rough summer for losing weight for me. I noticed that I am staying within my range for calories, fat, carbs, but at the end of the day I am negative for sugar and protein. What are your thoughts. By negative sometimes between 20-30.
Thanks for you help.

Look to see what the highest sugar items are you're eating. Eat or drink less of that.0

what's your actual question? Apart from asking people's thoughts? Are you looking for ideas to get the sugar and protein level?0

You can't have too much protien - MFP macros are set very screwy. Sugar is also set very low, if you aren't diabetic don't worry about it. Try to get it mostly from fruit.0

Generally speaking, going over on your protein is a good thing.0

I would not worry about being over on protein, I am always over on the protein, but the sugar you should try and cut back on. Take a look at your diary and see what has the most sugar in it, next time you go shopping look for another brand that has less sugar for that item. I struggle with this as well.0

Set your macros...do not follow the default. Make sure to hit .8g of Protein and .4g of Fat per lean body mass. Fill the rest with whatever you want. Don't worry about sugar (it will count as a Carb in your macros).
If "negative on Protein" means you are over than don't worry about it. The above are should be minimum guidlines, anything over is fine (assuming you are hitting your calories). Carbs are not needed by the body so you can be as low as you want.0 -
Being negative on the sugar is fine, but you really need to consume the proper grams of protein for your body weight.
There are a number of calculators on the web to help you determine this. You should also find out you body fat, BMI, etc.0 -
Thank you everyone The highest sugar I eat is in fruit and I only have two servings a day because of that. But I am surprised that there is sugar in some of the veggies that I eat.0

There's absolutely nothing wrong with being a little over your sugar goal (assuming you don't have a medical condition) if it's coming from natural sources. The standard is more for "added" sugars like those in things like cereal and flavored yogurts but unfortunately there's no way to log that separately on the site. And as others said, going over on the protein default is also perfectly fine - again, as long as you don't have a medical condition.0

If you are meeting your carbs, then being low on sugar is likely a good thing. But I'd suggest looking for ways to add more protein to your diet. Fish, eggs, lean meats, beans, nuts, seeds, etc. Or you could use a protein powder supplement.0
