How many calories a day is healthy ?

I know I know it should be 1200 at least but i honestly can't eat that much and not have a freak out I tried and failed. So what is the least amount I can eat and still be somewhat healthy because I really want to be healthier.

Okay so I also the times I try to eat that much I get sick. So that really isn't something I want.

I'm trying to be healthier. That's why I'm asking.
  • 1200 isn't even healthy, 1500 should be your minimum if you want to eat healthy. if the number scares you, don't count calories.

It sounds like you need to seek professional help. This site wasn't created to help people who have an eating disorder gain weight. You need professional advice and as far as I know there isn't anyone here qualified to give it.

And btw whether you think you look thin is besides the point. 97 lbs isn't a healthy weight for someone who is 5'6 unless you are prepubescent. I'm 5'6 also so I should know. I haven't been 97 lbs since I was 15 and yes, I did look too thin.

Where did you see the weight and height posted?
I checked the profile page of OP and its not there either.

IF, you OP, are really 5'6" and weight a mere 97 pounds, than yes you need to seek professional help ... not answers from this website.

Another post the OP made. I normally don't go through past posts but the red flags in this post were obvious, so I took a look.

Read one of your old forum posts and you said you were 5"6 and only 96 pounds?? That is waaaay underweight. You are NOT fat. I suggest you eat at your BMR and maybe try to gain a few pounds or seek professional help.

How many calories is healthy?! How long is a piece of string?

1200 isn't much really, if you're feeling sick and forcing yourself to eat that much, maybe you should try increasing healthy, high calorie foods - think good fats, for example.

Everyone's body is different. If you're concerned about your health try talking to a (decent) dietitian or nutritionalist.

No suggestions should be made on a specific number of calories.

    OP: seek a professional.

You need to find a dietitian and therapist who specialize in eating disorders to help you set an appropriate goal. This is not something you should be trying to figure out on your own.
  • I really don't want to make a big deal of it that's why I'm trying to figure it out myself...

Would you say the same thing if you had breast cancer? This is still your health and you should make a big deal out of it. Speak to a professional. People are saying this here out of concern, not to make you feel bad. Good luck to you and God bless!
